MELBOURNE - Dec 2/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A ridge of high pressure extends across Victoria while a cold front moves across Bass Strait on Monday afternoon and evening. A high pressure system will move south of the Bight during Tuesday then continue eastward to be near Victoria's western border by late Wednesday. The high will move across Victoria on Thursday and will reach the Tasman Sea on Friday. Forecast for the rest of MondayIsolated showers developing over southern and mountain districts, increasing about the southwest and central coast late in the day. Partly cloudy over the north. Cool to mild in the south and a little warmer north of the divide with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.Fire Danger - Very high in the northwest, locally high elsewhere.Tuesday 4 DecemberScattered showers near and south of the ranges with snow developing above 1300 metres. Showers becoming more extensive about West Gippsland and the southwestern coast with possible small hail in the afternoon. Isolated thunderstorms possible near parts of the central coast. Isolated light morning showers over the northwest. Cool with fresh southwesterly winds, strong near the coastal fringe.Wednesday 5 DecemberScattered showers near and south of the ranges becoming more isolated in the evening. Snow falls above 1300 metres, clearing by late in the day. Partly cloudy over the northwest. Cool to mild with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds, strong near the coastal fringe.Thursday 6 DecemberIsolated morning showers about the coast and east Gippsland clearing. Warm inland with light winds tending northerly in the afternoon and high cloud increasing from the west.
