For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high [1022 hPa] in the Tasman Sea is maintaining a weak ridge along
Queensland's east coast. A surface trough lies near the Queensland and Northern
Territory border. A weak mid level trough is expected to pass over southeast
Queensland this afternoon, and out to sea on Thursday.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the western districts, more isolated
near the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Areas of patchy, mainly light rain and
isolated thunderstorms over the southern interior. Scattered showers and
thunderstorms developing over the southeast interior, spreading to areas of
thundery rain over the coastal and near coastal parts of the southeast late in
the day. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere except for mainly isolated showers
about the tropical east coast. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over most of the
state, NE to NW over western districts. A very high fire danger over most inland
districts and the Capricornia region.
Forecast for Thursday
The ridge along the east coast will maintain hot to very hot NE to NW winds
over southern Queensland and isolated showers and thunderstorms over the western
districts and near the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Isolated afternoon and evening
showers and thunderstorms are also possible in some lingering instability over
the southeast interior. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere except for isolated
showers about the northeast coast.
Forecast for Friday
The ridge along the east coast will maintain hot to very hot conditions over
southern Queensland, and temperatures over the central interior are also
expected to rise a little. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are again
possible over parts of the state's far west, and the rest of the state will be
fine and mostly sunny except for a few isolated showers along the northeast
coast.
Forecast for Saturday
The ridge should remain along the east coast causing very hot conditions to
continue over southern Queensland and isolated showers and thunderstorms over
the state's far west and Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Isolated showers may
continue along the tropical east coast, and return to the southeast coast during
the morning. Fine elsewhere.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
The ridge should maintain hot to very hot conditions over the central and
southern interior. Most of the state should be fine and sunny though some
isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible over the far west, and showers
may increase during the weekend around the central and north tropical coast as
an upper low and surface trough move westwards across from the Coral Sea. An
upper trough may move over New South Wales early in the new week, and may result
in showers and thunderstorms forming over southeast Queensland on Monday.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Wednesday.
