MELBOURNE - Nov 27/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Fire Weather Warning is current for the southern Channel Country and western Warrego regions today. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high [1022 hPa] in the Tasman Sea is maintaining a weak ridge along Queensland's east coast. A surface trough lies over the far eastern Northern Territory near the Queensland border. An upper level trough is approaching far southwestern Queensland, and will move northeast across southern Queensland in the next day. Forecast for the rest of Tuesday Isolated showers and thunderstorms over western districts, and also over the Granite Belt. Fine over the remainder of the state except for some showers about the east coast. Light to moderate SE to NE winds. Very high fire danger over most inland districts, severe over the southern Channel Country and western Warrego. Forecast for Wednesday Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the western districts and near the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Patchy rain areas and isolated thunderstorms over the southern interior. Scattered showers and thunderstorms developing over the southeast inland, spreading to areas of thundery rain over the coastal and near coastal parts of the southeast during the evening. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere except for isolated to scattered showers about the tropical east coast. Light to moderate SE to NE winds, tending N to NW over western districts. A very high fire danger over most inland districts and the Capricornia. Forecast for Thursday The ridge along the east coast will combine with a trough over central Australia to maintain hot to very hot NE to NW winds southern Queensland, and there is again the chance of some isolated showers and thunderstorms over far western districts and near the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Isolated afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms are also possible in some lingering instability over the southeast interior. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere except for isolated showers about the northeast coast. Forecast for Friday The combination of the ridge along the east coast and trough over the Northern Territory will maintain hot to very hot conditions over southern Queensland, and temperatures over the central interior are also expected to rise. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are again possible over the state's far west, and the rest of the state will be fine and mostly sunny except for a few showers along the northeast coast. Forecast for Saturday The ridge will remain in place along the east coast, while the trough over the Northern Territory will edge eastwards into far southwestern Queensland. Very hot conditions will remain in place over southern Queensland, and edge a little further eastwards to the southeast inland. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the state's far west and near the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Isolated showers may continue along the tropical east coast, and return to the southeast coast during the morning. Fine elsewhere. Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday The ridge should maintain hot to very hot conditions over the central and southern interior over the outlook period. Most of the state should be fine and sunny though some isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible over the far west, and showers may increase during the weekend around the central and north tropical coast as an upper low and surface trough move westwards across from the Coral Sea.
