east coast. The ridge is expected to keep pushing hot to very hot air over
southern Queensland throughout this week. A weak surface trough lies over the
Channel Country.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the western districts, and also
possibly over the Granite Belt. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the
state except for some showers about the east coast, more widespread about the
Central Coast and Whitsundays. Very hot in the state's southwest and hot over
the remainder of the southern interior. Light to moderate SE to NE winds, fresh
at times about the western interior. Very high fire danger over most inland
districts, severe over the southern Channel Country and western Warrego.
Forecast for Wednesday
A weak ridge should remain along the east coast and will maintain the flow of
hot to very hot air over southern Queensland. A weak surface trough should
produce some isolated showers and thunderstorms over the western districts. A
weak upper level trough should also allow isolated showers and thunderstorms to
form over the remainder of the southern interior, and some of this activity
should spread to areas of thundery rain over the coastal and near coastal parts
of the southeast during the evening. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere except for
some isolated showers about the tropical east coast.
Forecast for Thursday
The ridge along the east coast will maintain hot to very hot conditions over
southern Queensland, and there is again the chance of some isolated showers and
thunderstorms over the western districts. Some areas of thundery rain
contracting off the southeast coast early in the morning. Isolated afternoon
and evening showers and thunderstorms are also possible in some lingering
instability over the southeast interior. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere except
for some isolated showers about the northeast coast.
Forecast for Friday
The ridge will maintain hot to very hot conditions over southern Queensland,
and temperatures over the central interior are also expected to rise. Isolated
shower and thunderstorms are again possible over the state's far west, and the
rest of the state will be fine and mostly sunny except for some isolated showers
over the northeast coast.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
The ridge should maintain hot to very hot conditions over the central and
southern interior over the outlook period. Most of the state should be fine and
sunny though some isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible over the far
west, and showers may increase during the weekend around the central coast as a
trough moves across from the Coral Sea.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Tuesday.
