MELBOURNE - Nov 26/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Fire Weather Warning issued for the southern Channel Country and western Warrego for Tuesday. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high [1022hPa] over the Tasman Sea extends a weak ridge along the east coast of Queensland. A weak surface trough lies over the Channel Country. Hot to very hot conditions about the west of the state and southern interior. Forecast for the rest of Monday Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms in a band from the northwest of the state through the central and southern interior. Isolated showers and thunderstorms also about the southern Darling Downs and Granite Belt. Fine over the remainder of the state, except for isolated light showers about the tropical east coast. A Very High fire danger over the Channel Country and Northwest districts. Light to moderate SE to NE winds. Forecast for Tuesday Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the far west, southern interior and Granite Belt, tending more scattered over the far northwest. Isolated showers along most of the east coast, tending scattered about the Central Coast and Whitsundays. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state. Very hot in the west. Light to moderate SE to NE winds, fresh at times about the western interior. Very high fire danger over most inland districts, tending severe over the southern Channel Country and western Warrego. Forecast for Wednesday The high in the Tasman Sea will maintain the ridge along the east coast, while the inland trough will remain near the Queensland/Northern Territory border. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the far southwest and southern interior but with little rainfall expected. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are also expected to develop about the Darling Downs and Granite Belt district, spreading to western and southern parts of the Southeast Coast district and southern Burnett. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere except for some isolated showers about the east coast north of Mackay. Remaining very hot in the southwest and southern interior with hot conditions developing in the southeast of the state. Forecast for Thursday The high in the Tasman Sea will remain slow moving along with the ridge about the east coast of Queensland. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the western districts and about the Granite Belt and Southern Border ranges. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere except for some isolated showers about the east coast. Hot to very hot conditions over the southwest, southern and southeast interior. Forecast for Friday A weakening ridge will remain along the east coast of Queensland, while a surface trough will develop about the far southwest of the state. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the far southwest and near the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere, with very hot conditions over the southern half of the state. Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday A ridge should remain along the east coast, and an associated onshore wind flow should produce isolated showers onto most of the east coast. A westward moving trough over the northwest Coral Sea combined with an upper level trough or low may lead to increasing shower activity about the tropical east coast. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state except for isolated showers and thunderstorms about the western districts and about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Remaining very hot in the west of the state and through the southern and southeast interior. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Tuesday.
