over the east Queensland coast. A surface trough lies over the Queensland
interior and New South Wales and will remain slow moving during Saturday.
Forecast for the rest of Friday
Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the northwest of the state with some
severe thunderstorms likely. Isolated showers and thunderstorms in the remainder
of the tropics. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over central and southeast
districts, scattered over inland areas with some severe thunderstorms likely.
Fine and clear over the southwest. Moderate mostly SE to NE winds, fresh at
times along the east coast and over parts of the interior. A Very High Fire
Danger in the Maranoa and Warrego and Central Highlands and Coalfields
districts.
Forecast for Saturday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms from the Gulf Country and northwest to the
southern and southeastern interior. These showers and thunderstorms are likely
to become scattered in the afternoon and evening about the central and southeast
interior. Only isolated showers about the east coast, these most likely in the
morning when some early drizzle may also occur. Fine and sunny in the southwest.
Hot to very hot maximum temperatures in the west and southern interior. Moderate
mostly SE to NE winds, fresh at times about the tropical east coast and over
parts of the interior. A Very High Fire Danger in the Northwest, Central West,
Channel Country, Maranoa and Warrego, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders
districts.
Forecast for Sunday
The high is likely to remain over the Tasman Sea and extend a ridge over the
east Queensland coast with generally isolated showers and early drizzle areas
about the east coast and adjacent inland. The surface trough is likely to be
over the far west of the state with isolated showers and thunderstorms from the
Gulf Country and northwest to the central, southern and southeast interior.
Remaining fine and sunny in the far southwest. Very hot maximum temperatures in
the west and southern interior.
Forecast for Monday
The high is likely to remain over the Tasman Sea and continue to extend a
ridge over the east Queensland coast with generally isolated showers, extending
into the adjacent inland in the afternoon. A new surface trough is likely to
move into the far southwest of the state, with the possibility of isolated
showers and thunderstorms to its east. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are
expected to continue over the Gulf Country. There is also the chance of isolated
afternoon and evening thunderstorms about the southeast border due to an upper
trough passing offshore of the southeast Queensland coast. Very hot maximum
temperatures in the west and southern interior.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high is likely to remain over the Tasman Sea and continue to extend the
ridge over the east coast of Queensland. Isolated showers are expected to
continue about the east coast and adjacent inland due to the moist onshore flow.
The surface trough is likely to remain in the far southwest of the state with
isolated showers and thunderstorms expected over western and southern parts of
the state. Very hot maximum temperatures in the west and southern interior.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
The coastal ridge of high pressure will be the dominant feature for the
extended outlook period as a new high builds in the southern Tasman Sea.
Isolated showers will continue about the tropical east coast. Isolated showers
and thunderstorms in the Gulf Country and western districts will most likely
spread east into southeast and possibly central districts during the outlook
period as a weak upper trough moves over the area. Hot to very hot conditions
will continue in the west and south.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Saturday.
