MELBOURNE - Nov 23/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high [1020 hPa] remains slow moving over the Tasman Sea and extends a ridge over the east Queensland coast. A surface trough lies over the Queensland interior and New South Wales and will remain slow moving during Saturday. Forecast for the rest of Friday Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the northwest of the state with some severe thunderstorms likely. Isolated showers and thunderstorms in the remainder of the tropics. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over central and southeast districts, scattered over inland areas with some severe thunderstorms likely. Fine and clear over the southwest. Moderate mostly SE to NE winds, fresh at times along the east coast and over parts of the interior. A Very High Fire Danger in the Maranoa and Warrego and Central Highlands and Coalfields districts. Forecast for Saturday Isolated showers and thunderstorms from the Gulf Country and northwest to the southern and southeastern interior. These showers and thunderstorms are likely to become scattered in the afternoon and evening about the central and southeast interior. Only isolated showers about the east coast, these most likely in the morning when some early drizzle may also occur. Fine and sunny in the southwest. Hot to very hot maximum temperatures in the west and southern interior. Moderate mostly SE to NE winds, fresh at times about the tropical east coast and over parts of the interior. A Very High Fire Danger in the Northwest, Central West, Channel Country, Maranoa and Warrego, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders districts. Forecast for Sunday The high is likely to remain over the Tasman Sea and extend a ridge over the east Queensland coast with generally isolated showers and early drizzle areas about the east coast and adjacent inland. The surface trough is likely to be over the far west of the state with isolated showers and thunderstorms from the Gulf Country and northwest to the central, southern and southeast interior. Remaining fine and sunny in the far southwest. Very hot maximum temperatures in the west and southern interior. Forecast for Monday The high is likely to remain over the Tasman Sea and continue to extend a ridge over the east Queensland coast with generally isolated showers, extending into the adjacent inland in the afternoon. A new surface trough is likely to move into the far southwest of the state, with the possibility of isolated showers and thunderstorms to its east. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue over the Gulf Country. There is also the chance of isolated afternoon and evening thunderstorms about the southeast border due to an upper trough passing offshore of the southeast Queensland coast. Very hot maximum temperatures in the west and southern interior. Forecast for Tuesday The high is likely to remain over the Tasman Sea and continue to extend the ridge over the east coast of Queensland. Isolated showers are expected to continue about the east coast and adjacent inland due to the moist onshore flow. The surface trough is likely to remain in the far southwest of the state with isolated showers and thunderstorms expected over western and southern parts of the state. Very hot maximum temperatures in the west and southern interior. Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday The coastal ridge of high pressure will be the dominant feature for the extended outlook period as a new high builds in the southern Tasman Sea. Isolated showers will continue about the tropical east coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms in the Gulf Country and western districts will most likely spread east into southeast and possibly central districts during the outlook period as a weak upper trough moves over the area. Hot to very hot conditions will continue in the west and south. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Saturday.
