MELBOURNE - Nov 22/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high [1021 hPa] over the eastern Great Australian Bight extends a ridge along the east coast of Australia. A surface trough lies over the Queensland interior and over northern New South Wales. An upper level trough is moving over eastern Queensland. Forecast for the rest of Thursday Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the central interior to the southeast region. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the remainder of the tropics, about east coast districts and over the southeast coast. Dry in the west and southern interior. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over the tropics and along the east coast. Moderate N'ly winds over the eastern interior tending moderate S to SE in the west. A high to very high fire danger over parts of the interior. Forecast for Friday Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the tropics and northwest. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over central and southeast districts, tending scattered over inland areas in the afternoon and evening with some severe thunderstorms likely. Fine, hot and sunny over the southwest. Moderate mostly SE to NE winds, fresh at times along the east coast and over parts of the interior. A Very High Fire Danger in the Channel Country, Maranoa and Warrego, Capricornia, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders districts. Forecast for Saturday As the coastal ridge of high pressure builds, coastal showers dominate, contracting the instability further inland. Isolated showers and thunderstorms again east of the western trough through the Gulf region, central interior and the Darling Downs district. Remaining hot and dry over the southwest of the state. Forecast for Sunday Not much change in the weather over the state from Saturday. Isolated showers and thunderstorms from the Gulf region extending through the central interior and into the Darling Downs district. Sunny and dry over the Channel Country. Isolated showers about the east coast, mainly morning. Forecast for Monday The western trough moves southwest through the Channel district towards a new approaching trough from S.A. Instability generally decreases across the state with isolated showers and thunderstorms about the Gulf district and over the eastern Darling Downs region. Very isolated afternoon showers over the remainder of the inland eastern districts. Isolated showers persisting about the east coast, mainly morning. Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday The coastal ridge of high pressure will be the dominant feature for the extended outlook period as a new high builds in the southern Tasman Sea. Isolated showers will continue about the east coast and adjacent inland on Monday before contracting into the tropics on Tuesday. Hot to very hot conditions will continue in the west. Isolated showers and thunderstorms in the Gulf Country and western districts will possibly extending to southern and southeast districts during Wednesday as a weak upper trough moves over the area. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Friday.
