Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Nov 21/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high [1022hPa] in the southern Tasman Sea extends a ridge over the east
coast of Queensland. The high will move towards New Zealand and weaken before a
new high moves over southeastern Australia maintaining the ridge along the east
coast.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the tropics and central interior,
tending more frequent about the coast and adjacent inland areas between Ayr and
Mackay. Fine in the southeast and in western districts. High to Very High Fire
Danger in the North West and Channel Country districts. Mostly light to moderate
SE to NE winds across the state.
Forecast for Thursday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the tropics, central interior and
eastern districts, tending more frequent about the Gulf Country. Fine and sunny
over the remainder of the state. Very warm to hot throughout much of the state
with a Very High fire danger over the Channel Country, North West, Central
Highlands and Coalfields, Maranoa and Warrego, Capricornia, and Wide Bay and
Burnett. Mostly light to moderate SE to NE winds across the state.
Forecast for Friday
The high will move over the Tasman Sea and maintain the ridge along the
eastern Queensland coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will extend from
the Gulf region through central interior into the southeast and southeast
interior. There is a possibility of isolated showers along the east coast in the
northern Peninsula and south of about Mackay. Thunderstorms will primarily be
confined to inland areas along the east coast. Fine and sunny conditions will
continue in the southwest and southern interior, with very warm to hot
conditions in interior parts of the state.
Forecast for Saturday
The high will move towards northern New Zealand maintaining a weak ridge
along the eastern Queensland coast.  Isolated showers and thunderstorms will
extend from the Gulf Country to the southern and southeastern interior. Isolated
showers along the east coast, will be confined to primarily the northern tropics
and south of Capricornia. Very warm to hot conditions will continue in interior
parts of the state, especially in the south, though it will be fine and sunny in
the southwest.
Forecast for Sunday
The high northwest of New Zealand will become almost stationary and begin to
weaken. Conditions will be similar to Saturday with isolated showers and
thunderstorms extending from the Gulf Country to the southern and southeastern
interior, and isolated showers along the east coast primarily south of
Capricornia. Very warm to hot conditions will continue in interior parts of the
state, especially in the south, though it will be fine and sunny in the Channel
Country.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
The coastal ridge of high pressure will be the dominant feature for the
extended outlook period as a new high builds in the southern Tasman Sea.
Isolated showers along the east coast will be mostly confined to the tropics.
Very warm to hot weather will continue throughout most of the state. Isolated
showers and thunderstorms in the Gulf Country and western districts will
possibly extending to southern districts on Wednesday as a weak upper trough
moves over the area.
