MELBOURNE - Nov 20/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Fire Weather Warning is current for the Northwest and Channel Country districts for Wednesday. Strong Wind Warning has been cancelled for coastal waters between Double Island Point and Point Danger, including Moreton Bay. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A ridge of high pressure is developing about the east coast from a 1026hpa high in the southern Tasman Sea. A weakening trough occurs on the central coast, connected to a low over the Coral sea. Forecast for the rest of Wednesday Isolated showers and thunderstorms generally over the tropics and extending south into the southern tropics and central interior this afternoon. Thunderstorm activity also increasing towards the central coast in the afternoon. Isolated showers about the southeast coast. Dry over southern districts, dry and hot in the west with severe fire danger. Moderate SE to NE winds across the tropics. Moderate to fresh SE winds about the east coast. Moderate NE to SE winds over the interior. A moderate to high fire over inland eastern districts. Forecast for Thursday Isolated showers and thunderstorms generally over the tropics, extending southeast across eastern districts and into the southeast coastal district. Dry and sunny over the remainder to the west and south. Some isolated early showers about the northeast tropical coast. Thunderstorm activity will be generally inland for the southeast coast. Forecast for Friday Similar conditions to Thursday with isolated showers and thunderstorms extending from the Gulf region through eastern districts to the southeast. The only difference will be a slight reduction in activity for the southeast coast. Thunderstorm activity will also decrease across Cape York Peninsula but showers will persist on the northeast tropical coast. Remaining dry trough the west and south. Forecast for Saturday With a new ridge of high pressure forming about the east coast, thunderstorm activity will actually decrease to isolated afternoon showers over the eastern interior. Isolated showers and thunderstorms persisting about the Gulf region and the southern tropics. Early showers generally about the northeast tropical coast. Early showers now developing about the southeast coast. Dry and sunny through the west and south of the state. Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday By Sunday the inland trough has drifted back into the far west but the weather remains much the same across the state from Saturday. The coastal ridge of high pressure will be the dominant feature for Monday and Tuesday, this will persist with the coastal showers south to the central coast. The inland trough drifts into South Australia but becomes absorbed into the next approaching trough from the west with possible late thunderstorms developing near the border. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Wednesday.
