MELBOURNE - Nov 19/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Fire Weather Warning is current for the Northwest and parts
of the Channel Country district.
A Strong Wind Warning is now current for coastal waters between Double Island
Point and Point Danger, including Moreton Bay.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A weak ridge of high pressure lies off the tropical east Queensland coast. A
surface trough extends from the Gulf Country through the central interior into
the far southeast of the state. A trough is moving north along the Capricornia
coast today, with a second trough moving over southern Queensland waters. A high
[1027 hPa] over the Tasman Sea will extend a firm ridge along the east coast
south of the troughs.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Isolated showers and gusty thunderstorms over the eastern tropics, tending
scattered about central districts where some storms may be severe. Isolated late
showers about the far southern coast. Dry and mostly clear elsewhere, hot in the
west. Light to moderate NE to NW winds over the northern tropics. Moderate SE to
NE winds elsewhere, fresh at times over the interior. Moderate to fresh SE winds
along the Capricornia coast, with fresh to strong and gusty S to SE winds along
the southern coast. A Severe Fire Danger in the Northwest and parts of the
Channel Country. A Very High Fire Danger in the Northern Goldfields and Upper
Flinders and most central districts.
Forecast for Wednesday
The surface trough is expected to drift a little westwards and extend from
the Gulf Country into the central interior, resulting in mainly isolated showers
and thunderstorms over the eastern tropics, central interior and the Gulf
Country. Isolated showers along the northeast tropical coast, and also along the
southern Queensland coast during the morning. Fine and mostly sunny over the
remainder of the state, with maximum temperatures increasing to well above
average in the west and southern interior.
Forecast for Thursday
The surface trough is expected to remain over the interior, lying from the
northwest to the southeast inland. An upper level trough is also expected to
move across southern Queensland. As a result, showers and thunderstorms are
expected to return to southeast Queensland, although this activity should only
be isolated due to a relatively dry airmass in place. Showers and thunderstorms
are also expected to continue over much of northern and central Queensland. Fine
and mostly sunny over the southwest, with maximum temperatures above average.
Forecast for Friday
The surface trough is expected to remain over the interior, lying from the
northwest to the southeast inland. The upper level trough is expected to move
offshore, however instability will linger across southeast Queensland. As a
result, isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue over central
and southeast districts, mainly inland. Showers and thunderstorms are expected
to continue over the northern tropics, and also over the northwest. Fine and
mostly sunny over the southwest, with maximum temperatures above average.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
A high is expected to lie over the Tasman Sea during the outlook period and
extend a ridge along the east Queensland coast with isolated showers. The
surface trough is likely to remain over the interior from the northwest to the
southern inland, with some showers and thunderstorms persisting over the
northern tropics and over eastern districts east of the surface trough. Maximum
temperatures to remain above average in western and southern Queensland.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Tuesday.
