Weather Situation
A weak ridge of high pressure lies off the tropical east Queensland coast. A
surface trough lies from the Gulf Country to over the central interior and into
the far southeast of the state. Another trough and gusty S to SE change is
expected to move north along the southeast Queensland coast during the remainder
of today, reaching the northern Capricornia late Tuesday. A high entering the
southern Tasman Sea will extend a firm ridge along the east coast south of the
trough on Tuesday, with increasing S to SE winds.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Isolated showers and gusty thunderstorms over northern and eastern districts,
tending scattered about the Wide Bay and Burnett, central districts and the
northern tropics. Locally heavy falls with thunderstorms. Isolated showers about
the southeast coast and border ranges. Dry and mostly clear elsewhere. Light to
moderate NE to NW winds over the northern tropics, tending moderate SW to SE
elsewhere. A fresh and gusty SE change over the Southeast Coast. A Very High
Fire Danger over central and western districts, the Northern Goldfields and
Upper Flinders, Darling Downs and Granite Belt, Southeast Coast districts.
Forecast for Tuesday
Isolated showers and gusty thunderstorms over the eastern tropics, tending
scattered about central districts. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the
northwest Gulf Country. Isolated showers along the southern coast, tending
scattered about Fraser Island in the morning. Dry and mostly clear elsewhere.
Light to moderate NE to NW winds over the northern tropics. Moderate SE to NE
winds elsewhere, fresh at times over the interior. Moderate to fresh SE winds
along the Capricornia coast, with fresh to strong and gusty S to SE winds along
the southern coast. A Very High Fire Danger over the Northwest, Northern
Goldfields and Upper Flinders and most central districts.
Forecast for Wednesday
The surface trough is expected to drift a little westwards and extend from
the Gulf Country into the central interior, resulting in mainly isolated showers
and thunderstorms over the eastern tropics, central interior and the Gulf
Country. Isolated showers along the northeast tropical coast, and also along the
southern Queensland coast during the morning. Fine and mostly sunny over the
remainder of the state, with maximum temperatures increasing to well above
average in the west and southern interior.
Forecast for Thursday
The surface trough is expected to remain over the interior, lying from the
northwest to the southeast inland. An upper level trough is also expected to
move across southern Queensland. As a result, isolated showers and thunderstorms
are expected to return to southeast Queensland, with showers and thunderstorms
expected to continue over the remainder of northern and central Queensland. Fine
and mostly sunny over the southwest, with maximum temperatures above average.
Forecast for Friday
The surface trough is expected to remain over the interior, lying from the
northwest to the southeast inland. The upper level trough is expected to move
offshore, however instability will linger across southeast Queensland. As a
result, isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue over central
and southeast districts, mainly inland. Showers and thunderstorms are expected
to continue over the northern tropics, and also over the northwest. Fine and
mostly sunny over the southwest, with maximum temperatures above average.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
A high is expected to lie over the Tasman Sea during the outlook period and
extend a ridge along the east Queensland coast with isolated showers. The
surface trough is likely to remain over the interior from the northwest to the
southern inland, with some showers and thunderstorms persisting over the
northern tropics and over eastern districts east of the surface trough. Maximum
temperatures to remain above average in western and southern Queensland.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Tuesday.
