Weather Situation
A weak ridge of high pressure lies off Queensland's east coast. A surface
trough stretches from the state's northwest to the southeast tropics. A trough
and gusty S to SE change is expected to move north along the southeast
Queensland coast during this afternoon and evening, followed by a firm ridge on
Tuesday.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms over northern and eastern districts,
tending scattered about central districts and the northern tropics. Isolated
showers and thunderstorms over the southeast coast and border ranges. Dry and
sunny elsewhere. Light to moderate NE to NW winds over the tropics, tending
moderate SW to SE in the south. A fresh and gusty S to SE change developing over
the Southeast Coast during the afternoon and evening. A very high fire danger
over central and western districts, the Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders,
Darling Downs and Granite Belt, Southeast Coast districts.
Forecast for Tuesday
A weak trough should continue to extend from the Gulf Country to the Wide Bay
region, and mainly isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected east of the
trough over the eastern tropics. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of
the state except for isolated light showers about the southeast coast.
Forecast for Wednesday
The surface trough is expected to drift a little westwards and extend from
the Gulf Country to the Central Highlands, resulting in mainly isolated showers
and thunderstorms over the southeast tropics and northeast tropics, and the Gulf
Country. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state.
Forecast for Thursday
The surface trough is expected to move inland, allowing mainly isolated
showers and thunderstorms to spread inland and to stretch from the state's far
north to the southeast tropics. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the
state except for the chance of some isolated thunderstorms about the southeast
coast.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
A weak high is expected to remain over the Tasman Sea during the outlook
period, whilst an upper level trough is also expected to stall near Queensland's
southeast coast, resulting in mainly isolated showers and thunderstorms over the
eastern districts. The high should push very warm to hot northerly winds over
western Queensland.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Monday.
