MELBOURNE - Nov 17/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A weak ridge of high pressure lies off Queensland's east coast. A surface trough stretches from the state's northwest to the southeast interior, and is expected to drift into the far northern and eastern districts during the day. Forecast for the rest of Sunday Mainly scattered showers and thunderstorms over the far northern, eastern, southeast interior and central interior districts, contracting towards the east coast during the day. Some of the thunderstorms over the state's southeast may be severe. Dry and sunny with very high fire danger over the state's southwest. Light to moderate S to SW winds over most of the state, with moderate to fresh NE to NW winds over the far northern and eastern districts. Forecast for Monday A weak surface trough should stretch from Gulf Country to the Wide Bay, and mainly isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected to its north and east. A weak southerly wind change is expected to push isolated showers along the southeast coast. Dry and sunny over most of the interior. Forecast for Tuesday A weak trough should continue to extend from the Gulf Country to the Wide Bay region, and mainly isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected east of the trough over the eastern tropics. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state except for some isolated showers about the southeast coast. Forecast for Wednesday The surface trough is expected to drift a little westwards and extend from the Gulf Country to the Central Highlands, resulting in mainly isolated showers and thunderstorms over the southeast tropics, the northern interior, and parts of the Peninsula district. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state. Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday A weak high is expected to remain near southeast Australia during the outlook period, whilst an upper level trough is also expected to stall near Queensland's southeast coast, resulting in mainly isolated showers and thunderstorms over the eastern districts. The high should push very warm to hot northerly winds over western Queensland. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Sunday.
