MELBOURNE - Nov 17/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A fire Weather Warning has been issued for the Central West and parts of the Northwest and Maranoa and Warrego districts today. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A ridge of high pressure is weakening about the northern Queensland's east coast. A surface trough is currently stalled over the southeast coast region. This trough will eventually move north to the Wide Bay coast on Monday and the Capricorn coast on Tuesday. A series of upper level troughs will maintain instability over the southeast region into Monday. Forecast for the rest of Saturday Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms parts of the northern tropics and also over the interior in a band from the Gulf region to the southeast. Areas of thundery rain over the southeast. Dry over the southwest. Severe fire dangers in the Central West and parts of the Northwest and Maranoa and Warrego districts. Moderate E to SE winds over the tropics. Light to moderate N to NE winds over the interior tending SE over the southern interior. Forecast for Sunday Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms over the northern tropics and east of about Richmond to St George. Early rain areas over the southeast region, tending to scattered showers and thunderstorms during the day, and some of these storms may be severe. Dry and sunny with Very High fire dangers over the southwest. Light to moderate NE to NW winds, tending S to Se over southwestern Queensland. Forecast for Monday A trough over the inland will stall from the Gulf Country through eastern parts of the central highlands. Another trough along the coast will move north to the Fraser coast area. Isolated showers and thunderstorms north and east of the inland trough, tending scattered over the Capricorn and Wide Bay districts. Isolated light showers near the southern coast. Dry and sunny over most of the interior. Forecast for Tuesday The inland trough will remain in place over the eastern tropics and eastern parts of the central highlands, with moderately unstable air to its east. However, an upper ridge over western Queensland will lead to stabilisation over most of the state, causing shower and thunderstorm activity east of the inland trough to become generally more isolated, although a slight maximum of thunderstorm activity may occur over the Capricorn region near the remains of the coastal trough. Isolated coastal showers along the southeast coast in a southeasterly airstream. Fine and sunny over the interior. Forecast for Wednesday The inland trough will retreat a little further westwards, with a moist relatively unstable airmass to its east, although the continued influence of an upper level ridge will again restrict shower and thunderstorm activity to be relatively isolated. Fine conditions should return to the southeast and continue over the southwest of the state. Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday A new trough will enter the Channel country from the west, and approach the southeast coast by Thursday. This feature, combined with an upper level trough will lead to isolated showers and thunderstorms to return to the southeast, and continue over most of eastern Queensland, tending more scattered over the central highlands. Showers and thunderstorms are likely to continue over eastern Queensland into the weekend, although a southerly change reaching the southeast will lead to fine conditions returning for Friday and Saturday. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Sunday.
