MELBOURNE - Nov 16/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Strong Wind Warning has been cancelled for waters from Double Island Point to Point Danger, including Moreton Bay. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A ridge of high pressure is weakening about the northern Queensland's east coast. A trough has moved through Moreton Bay and will stall just into the Sunshine coast for Sunday. This trough will eventually move north to the Wide Bay coast on Monday and the Capricorn coast on Tuesday. A series of upper level troughs will maintain instability over the southeast region into Monday. Forecast for the rest of Saturday Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the southern interior early this morning, clearing. Isolated showers and thunderstorms redeveloping over the interior in a band from the Gulf region to the southeast in the afternoon. Thunderstorm activity increasing over the southeast region with possible severe cells this afternoon. Possible early showers about the northeast tropical coast. Dry and sunny over the south and southwest. Moderate E to SE winds over the tropics. Light to moderate N to NE winds over the interior tending SE over the southern interior. Forecast for Sunday The inland trough moves into the eastern interior while the coastal trough slowly moves into the Sunshine coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms developing northeast of the inland trough in the afternoon from the tropics through eastern districts to the southeast. A maximum of thunderstorm activity occurring over the Capricorn, Wide Bay and Burnett regions with possible severe cells. Early rain areas over the southeast region. Dry and sunny over most of the interior. Forecast for Monday The inland trough stalls in the Gulf region and through eastern districts. The coastal trough now moves into the Wide Bay zone. Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms north and east of the inland trough. A maximum of thunderstorm activity over the Capricorn and Wide Bay districts. Becoming fine over the SE coastal district. A late SE'ly change will produce isolated showers and thunderstorms near the southern border. Continuing dry and sunny over most of the interior. Forecast for Tuesday Similar to Monday, isolated showers and thunderstorms in the north and through eastern coastal districts in the afternoon. A maximum of thunderstorm activity over the Capricorn region. Isolated coastal showers clearing the southeast coast. Fine and sunny over the interior. Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday Similar weather for Wednesday but the thunderstorm activity is weaker. A new trough enters the Channel country from the west with no weather. By Thursday the western trough continues to advance east with no weather. The old inland trough drifting west with a small thunderstorm maximum over the central highlands. The western trough reaches the southeast coast by Friday with showers and thunderstorm redeveloping towards the east coast. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Saturday.
