MELBOURNE - Nov 14/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time

Mount Isa to Winton to Blackall to Charleville to Inglewood for today.
A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for coastal waters from Noosa Heads to
Point Danger including Moreton Bay for this afternoon and evening.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A weakening ridge of high pressure extends along the northeast Queensland
coast. A trough will move east over central Australia during today and approach
far southwestern Queensland at night. Hot, gusty N'ly winds ahead of the trough
will result in elevated fire dangers over western and southern districts during
today and Friday.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the southern Gulf of Carpentaria
coast. Isolated showers about the northeast tropical coast north of Cairns, also
developing over the west Peninsula coast during the afternoon. Fine and mostly
sunny elsewhere. Hot dry and gusty NE to NW winds over western and southern
districts. Moderate to fresh E to SE winds over the far northern tropics. Mostly
light to moderate E to NE winds elsewhere. A Severe fire danger southwest of
Mount Isa to Winton to Blackall to Charleville to Inglewood, reaching extreme
near Birdsville. A Very High fire danger through remaining parts of the
interior.
Forecast for Friday
The trough will move east through the interior of Queensland to extend from
the northwest of the state to the Maranoa at night. Hot, fresh and gusty N'ly
winds will extend through southern Queensland ahead of the trough, enhancing
fire dangers further. The trough will generate isolated showers and
thunderstorms over far southern parts of the state with its passage, possibly
reaching the coast near and south of about Brisbane late at night. Isolated
morning showers will occur over the northeast tropical coast north of Cooktown,
and should also again develop near the Gulf of Carpentaria and western Peninsula
coasts with possible isolated thunderstorms. Fine and mostly sunny conditions
are expected elsewhere.
Forecast for Saturday
The surface trough will most likely move further east to extend from the
northwest of the state to the southeastern interior. The surface trough is
expected to combine with an upper level feature to greatly increase instability
through southeastern Queensland, with isolated showers and thunderstorms
becoming more widespread on and east of the Great Dividing Range to the coast
during the afternoon and evening. A S'ly wind change moving north along the
southern coast will increase instability further during the afternoon, with some
severe thunderstorms likely. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will occur over
remaining areas northeast of about Mount Isa to St George, possibly reaching the
coast over areas south of about Townsville. Fine conditions will occur through
the southwest due to a dry, cooler S'ly wind flow behind the trough.
Forecast for Sunday
The inland trough will shift a little further east to extend from about Mount
Isa to Richmond to Emerald, with isolated showers and thunderstorms to its north
and east. The coastal trough and associated focus for more widespread shower and
thunderstorm activity should shift a little further north out of the far
southeast into the Wide Bay and Burnett and Capricornia districts. A much cooler
day will occur through far southeastern Queensland with showers and
thunderstorms gradually decreasing to isolated showers. Conditions will remain
fine and sunny in the west due to a dry S'ly wind flow.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
An inland trough will continue to dominate weather over Queensland during the
outlook period. A high pressure system will move east into the Tasman Sea from
Monday, gradually extending a ridge along the east Queensland coast. The inland
trough will retreat slowly west as a result, with isolated showers and
thunderstorms occurring to its east and fine conditions continuing to its
west.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Thursday.
