Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Nov 14/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A fire weather warning has been issued for many western and
southern districts for Thursday and Friday.
A strong wind warning has been issued for southeast coastal waters for later on
Thursday.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A weakening ridge of high pressure occurs along the Queensland coast. An
inland trough will move east through western districts during Thursday. This
trough will stall over the eastern interior on Saturday but pass through the
southeast coast. Hot conditions and gusty winds ahead of this trough over the
interior will create severe to extreme fire weather conditions for Thursday and
Friday.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Very isolated showers and thunderstorms near the southern border for the
southeast coast and Darling Downs this evening. Isolated showers about the
northeast tropical coast, a few showers and thunderstorms near the western Gulf
coast. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state. Moderate to fresh
SE winds across the tropics, light to moderate NE to NW winds generally over the
interior. Moderate NE to N winds about the central and southeast coasts. A high
fire danger over parts of the interior.
Forecast for Thursday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the western Gulf coast, isolated
showers on the northeast tropical coast. Dry and sunny over most of the
remainder of the state. Freshening N to NW winds over western and southern
districts with high temperatures will lead to severe to extreme fire danger and
a fire weather warning. High to very high fire dangers over many eastern
interior districts.
Forecast for Friday
The stalled western trough will be reinforced by a secondary trough from
South Australia and the combined system will move northeast through the western
interior. Again high temperatures and gusty N to NW winds ahead of the trough
will generate severe to extreme fire danger and a fire weather warning across
many western and southern districts, including the Darling Downs. The trough
will generate some isolated showers and thunderstorms over southern and
southeast districts in the afternoon and evening. Isolated showers and
thunderstorms also about the Gulf coast. Continuing isolated showers in the
northeast tropics. Fine and sunny over the remainder of the state.
Forecast for Saturday
The western trough moves through the central interior but slows. It also
passes through the Darling Downs region then stalls. The coastal trough actually
moves through the southeast coast first from the south with cooler SE'ly winds.
Both trough systems converge over the Darling downs with maximum thunderstorm
activity, possibly severe in the afternoon. Showers and thunderstorms generally
over the greater southeast region, isolated showers and thunderstorms extending
northwest to the Gulf ahead of the inland trough. Strong N'ly winds about the
southeast coast will give way to strong SSE winds. Remaining isolated showers
about the northeast tropical coast. Dry and sunny through the western interior.
Forecast for Sunday
Inland trough now stalled, coastal trough reaching the Capricorn district.
Isolated showers and thunderstorms again north and east of the trough. Increased
thunderstorm activity over the Capricorn, Wide Bay and Burnett regions. Isolated
showers and thunderstorms extending south into the Darling Downs, isolated
showers on the southeast coast.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
Showers decreasing in the southeast on Monday but thunderstorms continuing in
the Capricorn and central Highlands. Isolated showers and thunderstorms
persisting in the tropics. By Tuesday the weather builds up again over the
southeast as a secondary trough moves through from the south. By Wednesday the
thunderstorm activity will be pushed inland over the central interior while
clearing the coast. Isolated showers remaining about the east coast.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Thursday.
