Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Nov 12/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning is current from Torres Strait to Sandy
Cape, contracting to waters from Torres Strait to Bowen on Tuesday.
A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for Northeast Gulf of Carpentaria waters
north of Cullen Point for Tuesday.

Weather Situation
A high [1027 hPa] over the Tasman Sea extends a firm ridge along the north
tropical coast of Queensland. The high will weaken as it moves slowly east over
the Tasman Sea over the next few days, gradually relaxing the ridge.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Isolated showers about the east coast and adjacent inland, mostly north of
Yeppoon. Isolated showers over the Gulf Country and western Peninsula district,
with isolated thunderstorms west of Normanton. Fine and mostly clear elsewhere.
Fresh to strong and gusty SE'ly winds north of Fraser Island.  Light to moderate
SE to NE winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Tuesday
Isolated showers about the east tropical coast and adjacent inland, more
frequent about the coast between Cairns and Townsville during the morning.
Isolated showers clearing the central coast during the morning. Isolated showers
and thunderstorms over the far western Gulf Country near the Northern Territory
border. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. A cool morning over the central and
southeast interior. Moderate to fresh SE'ly winds about the east coast north of
Fraser Island, strong and gusty at times north of Bowen. Light to moderate
mostly SE to NE winds elsewhere. A Very High fire danger over the Northern
Goldfields and Upper Flinders, Peninsula and Herbert and Lower Burdekin
districts.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high over the Tasman Sea is expected to weaken, gradually relaxing the
ridge and decreasing winds along the northeast tropical coast. Isolated showers
will persist in the onshore wind flow about the east tropical coast and adjacent
inland, most likely more frequent about the coast between Cairns and Townsville
during the morning. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will persist near the
southern Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Instability associated with a weak upper
level trough is also likely to lead to isolated afternoon and evening showers
and thunderstorms about the southeast interior, particularly on the southern
border ranges. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will occur elsewhere.
Forecast for Thursday
A trough will move east over central Australia and approach the southwestern
border at night. Hot, dry and gusty N'ly winds ahead of the trough will lead to
enhanced fire dangers over the southwest of the state. Isolated showers will
occur about the northeast tropical coast and adjacent inland in an onshore wind
flow. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will also continue about the southern
Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will occur
elsewhere.
Forecast for Friday
The trough will move east over the southern interior of Queensland, most
likely entering southeastern districts during the afternoon and evening. The
area of hot, fresh and gusty N'ly winds will shift into southeastern districts,
enhancing fire dangers. The trough will generate showers and isolated
thunderstorms over far southern parts of the state with its passage, possibly
reaching the coast near and south of Brisbane late in the day. Isolated showers
will persist over the northeast tropical coast, and should also again develop
near the Gulf of Carpentaria coast with possible isolated thunderstorms. Fine
and mostly sunny conditions are expected elsewhere.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
The trough will most likely move east off the southeast Queensland coast
during Saturday, followed by a cooler S'ly wind change extending north over
southern Queensland waters. Showers and thunderstorms should gradually contract
north over southeast and central districts with the change during the weekend.
Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms are also expected near an inland
trough extending from the northwest of the state into the southern interior
during Sunday and Monday. A high will move east into the Tasman Sea during the
outlook period, extending a ridge along the northeast tropical coast, with
isolated showers expected in the moist onshore wind flow.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Tuesday.
