MELBOURNE - Nov 11/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Gale Warning is current for offshore coastal waters between Sandy Cape and Point Danger for today. A Strong Wind Warning is current for remaining coastal waters between Cardwell and Point Danger, and also for Hervey Bay and Moreton Bay. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A surface trough is moving north along the tropical east Queensland coast, with strong and gusty S to SE winds about the coast to its south. A low [1012 hPa] over the southern Coral Sea is expected to move northeast and weaken overnight. A slow moving high [1027 hPa] over the Tasman Sea extends a firm ridge along the east coast to the south of the trough. Forecast for the rest of Sunday Cloudy with isolated to scattered showers about the east coast. Isolated showers over the adjacent inland and over the central interior. Isolated showers over the northern tropics, with isolated thunderstorms near the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Rough surf on exposed beaches south of Sandy Cape. Moderate to fresh SE to NE winds across the state, tending strong and gusty S to SE about the coast south of Cardwell. Forecast for Monday Cloudy with isolated showers about the east coast and adjacent inland, tending more widespread about the North Tropical Coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast and northwest Gulf Country. Morning cloud over the eastern interior. Fine and mostly sunny over the west. A cool day in the east. Rough surf along the east coast of Fraser Island easing during the day. Moderate to fresh SE to NE winds, tending fresh to strong SE along much of the east coast. A Very High Fire Danger in the Herbert and Lower Burdekin, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders districts. Forecast for Tuesday The high is expected to remain over the Tasman Sea region with a firm ridge along the tropical east coast with fresh to strong SE winds and isolated showers, tending scattered about the North Tropical Coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms near the Gulf of Carpentaria and about the Gulf Country. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Forecast for Wednesday The high is expected to remain over the Tasman Sea region with the ridge expected to weaken along the east Queensland coast. Partly cloudy with isolated showers about the North Tropical Coast, possibly scattered between about Cairns and Ingham in the morning. Isolated showers and thunderstorms near the Gulf of Carpentaria and over the western Gulf Country. Instability associated with a weak upper level trough is likely to lead to isolated afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms near the Granite Belt. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere, warmer in the south. Forecast for Thursday The high is expected to weaken over the eastern Tasman Sea with the ridge along the tropical east coast also expected to weaken. Partly cloudy with isolated showers about the North Tropical Coast. Continuing unstable with isolated showers and thunderstorms near the Gulf of Carpentaria and over the western Gulf Country. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. A warm day in the south. Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday The ridge of high pressure will persist along the north tropical Queensland coast but continue to weaken. As a result, isolated showers are expected to continue along the North Tropical Coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are also expected to continue near the Gulf of Carpentaria and over the western Gulf Country. A new surface and upper level trough is expected to move over the southwest and southern interior during Friday and into eastern Queensland during the weekend. Showers and thunderstorms are likely to accompany the trough over southern Queensland as it moves eastwards, reaching southeast and central districts by Saturday and persisting during the weekend. Maximum temperatures are expected to be above average in the south. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Monday.
