Cardwell and Point Danger, including Hervey Bay and Moreton Bay.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high near New Zealand extends a weakening ridge along the tropical
Queensland coast. A surface trough lies near Fraser Island and will move north
to the southern tropical coast today. A strong S to SE change will accompany the
trough. A high over Victoria is expected to move east into the Tasman Sea on
today and extend a firm ridge along the east coast to the south of the trough.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Cloudy with areas of rain and local thunder clearing the Capricornia and
southeast districts early in the morning. Scattered showers and morning drizzle
otherwise over central and southeast districts. Isolated showers over the
northern tropics, with isolated thunderstorms near the Gulf of Carpentaria
coast. Morning cloud and fogs over the west and southern interior. A cool day in
the south and east. Moderate to fresh SE to NE winds across the state, tending
fresh to strong and gusty S to SE about the coast south of Cardwell.
Forecast for Monday
The high is expected to remain over the western Tasman Sea and continue to
extend a ridge along the east coast of Queensland. Fresh to strong SE winds will
persist about much of the east coast, although these should gradually ease over
far southern waters. Scattered showers are expected about the North Tropical
Coast and ranges in the strong onshore flow. Isolated showers are expected to
continue about the remainder of the east coast and nearby ranges, clearing from
the southeast during the morning. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the
Gulf Country. Fine and mostly sunny over the interior, a cool day in the east.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high is expected to remain over the Tasman Sea region with a firm ridge
along the tropical east coast with fresh to strong SE winds and isolated
showers, tending scattered about the North Tropical Coast. Isolated showers and
thunderstorms about the Gulf Country. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high is expected to remain over the Tasman Sea region with the ridge
expected to weaken along the east Queensland coast. Partly cloudy with isolated
showers about the North Tropical Coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about
the Gulf Country. Instability associated with a weak upper level trough is
likely to lead to isolated afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms near
the Granite Belt. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere, warmer in the south.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
The ridge of high pressure will persist about the Queensland east coast but
continue to weaken. As a result, isolated showers are expected to continue along
the North Tropical Coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are also expected
to continue near the Gulf of Carpentaria and western Gulf Country. A new surface
and upper level trough is expected to move over the southwest and southern
interior during Friday and into the southeast on Saturday. Isolated showers and
thunderstorms are likely to accompany the trough over southern Queensland as it
moves eastwards, reaching southeast and central districts on Saturday. Maximum
temperatures are expected to be above average in the south.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Sunday.
