MELBOURNE - Nov 10/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters between Cardwell and Point Danger, including Hervey Bay and Moreton Bay. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high near New Zealand extends a weakening ridge along the tropical Queensland coast. A surface trough lies over eastern Queensland. A S to SE change is expected to move over southeast Queensland during the rest of today and extend northwards into the tropics on Sunday, accompanied by strong and gusty winds near the coast. A high over Victoria is expected to move east into the Tasman Sea on Sunday and extend a firm ridge along the east coast in the wake of the trough. Forecast for the rest of Saturday Cloudy and cool with areas of rain, scattered showers and thunderstorms with moderate to locally heavy falls over the central interior, central and southeast districts, slowly contracting east. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms in the wake of the rain band over the central and southern interior. Scattered showers, patchy rain and gusty thunderstorms over most of the tropics. Moderate SE to NE winds, shifting SW to SE over most of the interior. A moderate to fresh S to SE wind change spreading over southeast Queensland, tending strong and gusty along the coast. Forecast for Sunday Cloudy with areas of rain and local thunder clearing the Capricornia and southeast districts early in the morning, with moderate falls possible at first near the coast. Isolated showers and morning drizzle otherwise over central and southeast districts, tending scattered about the Wide Bay, Capricornia and Central Coast. Isolated showers over the northern tropics, with isolated thunderstorms near the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Morning cloud and fogs over the west and southern interior. A cool day in the south and east. Moderate to fresh SE to NE winds across the state, tending fresh to strong and gusty S to SE about the coast south of Cardwell. Forecast for Monday The high is expected to remain over the western Tasman Sea and continue to extend a ridge along the east coast of Queensland. Fresh to strong SE winds will persist about much of the east coast, although these should gradually ease over far southern waters. Scattered showers are expected about the North Tropical Coast and ranges in the strong onshore flow. Isolated showers are expected to continue about the remainder of the east coast and nearby ranges, clearing from the southeast during the morning. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the Gulf Country. Fine and mostly sunny over the interior, a cool day in the east. Forecast for Tuesday The high is expected to remain over the Tasman Sea region with a firm ridge along the tropical east coast with fresh to strong SE winds and isolated showers, tending scattered about the North Tropical Coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the Gulf Country. Increasing instability associated with a very weak upper level trough may lead to isolated late showers or thunderstorms near the Granite Belt. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Forecast for Wednesday The high is expected to remain over the Tasman Sea region with the ridge expected to weaken along the east Queensland coast. Partly cloudy with isolated showers about the North Tropical Coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the Gulf Country. Instability associated with a weak upper level trough is likely to lead to isolated afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms near the Granite Belt. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere, warmer in the south. Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday The ridge of high pressure will persist about the Queensland east coast but continue to weaken. As a result, isolated showers are expected to continue along the North Tropical Coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are also expected to continue near the Gulf of Carpentaria and western Gulf Country. A new surface and upper level trough is expected to move over the southwest and southern interior during Friday and into the southeast on Saturday. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are likely to accompany the trough over southern Queensland as it moves eastwards, reaching southeast and central districts on Saturday. Maximum temperatures are expected to be above average in the south. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Sunday.
