Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Nov 9/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for waters between
Sandy Cape and Point Danger, including Moreton Bay, for today.

Weather Situation
A high [1028 hPa] over New Zealand extends a weakening ridge onto the
Queensland east coast. A surface trough over eastern Queensland will move
through the southeast coast this afternoon and continue further north  over the
next few days.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Patchy rain contracting east during the day with isolated thunderstorms, some
moderate to heavy falls. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms generally
over most of the tropics. Becoming dry and sunny over western and southern
districts. A fresh to strong SSE wind change extending north from southern
waters today. Daytime temperatures will again be well below associated with the
rain band.
Forecast for Sunday
The coastal trough will progress north into the southern tropics extending
the strong winds to about Cardwell. Patchy rain clearing the east coast early,
isolated afternoon showers remaining over eastern inland districts. Isolated
afternoon showers generally over the tropics with decreasing instability.
Thunderstorms contracting to the Gulf coast in the afternoon. Dry and sunny over
most of the interior. Temperatures will generally remain below average in the
cool S to SE flow in the south.
Forecast for Monday
The southern high will move northeast off the northern New South Wales coast
with a ridge persisting along the Queensland coast. Strong SE winds now
extending to the northern tropics while easing over southern waters south of
Gladstone. Showers generally about the northeast coast with a maximum near
Cairns as the coastal trough moves through. Isolated showers and thunderstorms
remaining about the Gulf coast, dry and sunny over the interior.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high now weakens off the southeast coast of Queensland. Isolated showers
persisting about the northeast tropical coast. Some thunderstorm activity in the
western Gulf district near the coast. Dry and sunny over the interior.
Increasing instability over southern Queensland may lead to possible isolated
showers and thunderstorms developing over the southern Darling Downs in the
afternoon.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
The ridge of high pressure will persist about the Queensland east coast
through to Friday. A new upper level trough will approach the western border on
Friday. Showers contracting further north during this period in the tropics but
some thunderstorm activity may persist about the Gulf coast. Some showers and
thunderstorms possible again in the southern Darling Downs on Wednesday but fine
after this. Instability returning in the far west on Friday may lead to new
thunderstorm development.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Saturday.
