MELBOURNE - Nov 8/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A weakening high over New Zealand extends a ridge onto the Queensland east coast. A trough occurs over the interior and is expected to drift further east tomorrow, eventually reaching the southeast region on Saturday. Forecast for the rest of Thursday Patchy rain and isolated thunderstorms over western districts, scattered showers and thunderstorms over the Gulf and central interior. Fine and mostly sunny over the eastern interior. Isolated showers about the east coast. Moderate to fresh E to SE winds in the northern tropics tending to light to moderate E to NE winds about most of the east coast. Light to moderate N to NE winds over the eastern interior, light to moderate S to SE winds in the west. A high fire danger over the eastern interior. Forecast for Friday Patchy rain with isolated thunderstorms over most of the interior, extending SE into the Darling Downs district with moderate falls. Thunderstorms generally about the Gulf region and the west coast of Cape York Peninsula. Fine further east, isolated showers about the east coast. Showers extending over the SE region during Friday morning. Becoming fine and sunny in the far west. Moderate to fresh E to SE winds through the tropics, light to moderate NE winds about most of the east coast. Light to moderate S to SE winds over the interior. A very high fire danger in the far west. Forecast for Saturday Rain areas and local thunder over the SE region with moderate to heavy falls as the inland trough moves through with freshening SE winds about the coast. Patchy rain and isolated thunderstorms generally through the eastern interior over the central Highlands. Showers and thunderstorms further north towards the Gulf district. Isolated showers continuing in the NE tropics. Dry and sunny over the west and through southern districts. Daytime temperatures will again be well below average under the cloud band and also in the S to SE wind flow in its wake. Forecast for Sunday Patchy rain clearing the east coast early, isolated showers in the afternoon over eastern districts, extending into the tropics. Showers generally about the NE tropical coast. The instability now decreases over Queensland as the upper level trough clears the east coast. This will reduce the thunderstorm activity to isolated cells about the Gulf coast. Dry and sunny over most of the interior. Strong SE winds about the SE coast and extending north to St Lawrence. Minimum and maximum temperatures will generally remain below average in the cool S to SE flow. Forecast for Monday Showers decreasing about the east coast south of Mackay, scattered showers on the NE tropical coast. Dry and sunny over most of the interior. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the Gulf coast. Strong winds easing about southern waters but developing north of Bowen. Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday After the trough passage on the east coast a ridge of higher pressure will follow and persist into Thursday. Showers will continue to contract north through Wednesday and Thursday. Remaining dry over the interior and fine over the SE region. Minimum temperatures will remain slightly below average whilst maximum temperatures should slowly recover closer to average. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Friday.
