MELBOURNE - Nov 7/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high [1029 hPa] near New Zealand is expected to remain near stationary into Friday with a weakening ridge along the east coast of Queensland. A trough is approaching the western border from South Australia and will merge with a stationary trough already over the western Queensland by Friday then move further east. Forecast for the rest of Wednesday Scattered showers and thunderstorms developing this evening in the far west, expanding into thundery rain areas overnight. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the Gulf district, fine and sunny over the remainder of the state apart from isolated showers near the east coast. Light and variable winds near the western border. Moderate to fresh E to SE winds over the tropics. Moderate N to NE winds over the greater southeast region. A High Fire Danger over most of the interior. Forecast for Thursday Thundery rain over the Channel Country early with some moderate falls, decreasing by late morning. Scattered showers and thunderstorms developing over the interior from the Gulf region to southern inland districts in the afternoon. Thunderstorms eventually expanding into thundery rain in the evening over the southern interior. Fine and sunny over the eastern interior. Isolated light showers about the east coast. Possible early drizzle or light showers over the southeast district. Moderate N to NE winds over the southern and eastern interior, moderate to fresh E to SE winds across the tropics. Light to moderate S to SE winds over western districts. A high fire danger over most of the interior. Forecast for Friday The inland surface trough or Southerly wind change, moves east towards the Darling Downs but remains in the Gulf region. Scattered showers and thunderstorms about the west coast of Cape York Peninsula and the Gulf region, increasing to the southeast over the central interior in the afternoon. Thundery rain over the southern and southeast interior with moderate to heavy falls near the trough. Isolated showers about the east coast, some early morning drizzle or light showers over the southeast region. Fine and sunny in the west of the state. Daytime temperatures will be well below average under the cloud band. Forecast for Saturday The surface trough reaches eastern districts with a cooler southeasterly change developing on the southeast coast. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over most of the tropics tending to thundery rain over the eastern interior and southeast region, some moderate falls. Isolated showers about the northeast tropical coast. Fine and sunny over the western and southern interior. Daytime temperatures will again be well below average associated with the thundery rain and also in the S to SE wind flow in its wake. Forecast for Sunday The surface trough moves up the central coast with clearing patchy rain in the morning. Isolated afternoon showers remaining over the eastern interior and through most of the tropics. Reduced thunderstorm activity in the north with some isolated cells about the Gulf coast. Fine and sunny over remaining districts. Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday By Monday showers contracting to the northeast tropics as the coastal trough moves onto the northeast tropical coast. Afternoon shower activity decreasing about the Gulf coast, remaining dry over most of the interior and fine in the southeast. By Tuesday much the same across the state but by Wednesday isolated showers returning to the southeast coast in the easterly flow. By now shower activity has decreased further in the northeast tropics. Remaining fine over remainder districts. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Thursday.
