MELBOURNE - Nov 5/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system over the eastern Tasman Sea is directing warm and increasingly humid northerly winds across New South Wales, as a broad trough of low pressure lies through central parts of Australia. This trough will move into New South Wales during Tuesday, leading to unsettled conditions through southern and western districts. Shower and thunderstorm activity is expected to increase late Tuesday or Wednesday as a cold front approaches from the Southern Ocean, with showers increasing to more extensive rain areas across the south and west. The focus of activity should shift towards the northeast during Thursday and Friday as the cold front brings cooler and drier air into the state's west. A ridge of high pressure is forecast to strengthen over the region in the wake of the front, prompting a return to mostly fine conditions by Sunday. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayShowers and thunderstorms across the south and west of the state, becoming more widespread in the southwest during the afternoon, and possibly extending to central districts. Fine and partly cloudy in the northeast. Warm to hot, humid northeast to northwesterly winds, tending southwesterly in the west.Fire Danger - Very High: Sydney Metropolitan, Hunter, Central Tablelands, Mid North Coast.Wednesday 7 NovemberRain and thunderstorms across southern, central and western districts, with locally heavy falls possible. Mostly fine in the northeast, apart from the chance of afternoon showers or thunderstorms about the ranges. Warm to hot, humid northeast to northwesterly winds, tending southwesterly in the southwest.Thursday 8 NovemberShowers and thunderstorms, more widespread across central and southeastern districts, clearing from the west through the day. Warm to hot, humid northwest to northeasterly winds in the north and east, with southwest winds extending across the remainder.Friday 9 NovemberScattered showers and thunderstorms in central and eastern districts, mainly in the afternoon. Fine in the west.
