MELBOURNE - Nov 4/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Fire Weather Warning is current for the North West district and parts of the Channel Country and Central West districts for the remainder of this afternoon and early evening. A Fire Weather Warning has been issued for the Channel Country district, and parts of the North West, Central West and Maranoa and Warrego districts for Monday. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A trough extends over central coast waters into the central interior of Queensland and is expected to weaken as it contracts further north on Monday. A high [1027 hPa] over the Tasman Sea will move southeast towards New Zealand over the next couple of days, maintaining a firm ridge along the east Queensland coast. A trough will move east over central Australia on Monday, approaching the southwestern Queensland border late in the day. Freshening N'ly winds and hot temperatures will result in increasing fire dangers over far western Queensland on Monday. Forecast for the rest of Sunday Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms over central districts north and west of about Rockhampton and through the northern Maranoa, with showers increasing to scattered near the central coast. Cloudy with isolated showers and light drizzle areas elsewhere over the Capricornia. Isolated showers over southeast districts, mostly inland with possible isolated thunderstorms about the ranges. Isolated showers over the northeast tropics, mostly inland. Showers and isolated thunderstorms about the Gulf Country. Fine and mostly clear over the remainder of the state. Moderate SE to NE winds, fresh at times along the east coast north of Fraser Island and over the west. A Very High to Severe Fire Danger in the North West, northern Channel Country and far western Central West district. Forecast for Monday Isolated showers over the far eastern tropics, increasing to scattered about the northeast tropical coast during the day. Isolated showers and drizzle areas about the central coast and interior, clearing during the morning. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the far northwest of the state. Cloud increasing over the remaining western border during the evening with possible isolated late showers and thunderstorms. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state. A hot day in the west with fresh and gusty N'ly winds. Fresh SE'ly winds along the east coast north of Fraser Island, gusty at times in the tropics. Light to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere. A Severe Fire Danger over the Channel Country district and parts of the North West, Central West and Maranoa and Warrego districts, increasing to Extreme Fire Danger through the western Channel Country. A Very High fire danger over the Peninsula district. Forecast for Tuesday The high is expected to remain near New Zealand, maintaining a ridge over eastern Queensland. Isolated showers will continue along the east tropical coast and are also expected to develop about Fraser Island and the Sunshine Coast. The surface trough near the southwest of the state will most likely combine with an intensifying upper level trough over central Australia to generate a band of showers and isolated thunderstorms southwest of about Mount Isa to Charleville. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected over remaining northwestern parts of the state. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will occur elsewhere. Forecast for Wednesday A surface trough will most likely remain slow moving near the southwest of the state while the upper system will continue to develop over central Australia. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are therefore again expected through far western parts of the state, possibly becoming more widespread late in the day with some rain areas developing as the trough shifts further east. Some high cloud will most likely spread further east through the southern interior though with little or no rain expected. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will occur over remaining parts of the interior. A firm ridge will persist over eastern Queensland, with isolated showers along the exposed east coast and ranges in a moist onshore wind flow. Forecast for Thursday A surface trough will most likely remain over southwestern Queensland while the upper trough is expected to intensify further over central Australia and move closer to the Queensland border. This will result in a cloud band developing through areas southwest of about Normanton to Goondiwindi, with rain areas and isolated thunderstorms expected. A ridge of high pressure will persist over eastern districts, with isolated showers expected in the moist onshore wind flow. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected over the remainder of the state. Daytime temperatures will be well below average in the west under the cloud band. Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday Some uncertainty exists with the movement of the trough but at this stage it will most likely move east over the state during the outlook period and contract off the central and southeast coasts during Sunday. The trough is expected to generate a band of showers and thunderstorms with its passage, possibly spreading to thundery rain areas, particularly over the interior. Mostly fine conditions should persist over eastern districts ahead of the trough passage with only isolated showers expected. Cool day time temperatures will occur under the cloud band and also in the S'ly wind flow in its wake. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Monday.
