Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Nov 3/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Fire Weather Warning is current for the North West district
and parts of the Channel Country and Central West districts for Sunday.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A trough extends over the western Coral Sea onto the Capricorn coast and is
expected to shift further north into Central Coast waters on Sunday. Another
trough lies over the central highlands of Queensland and is expected to weaken
during Sunday. A high pressure system lies just east of Victoria and is expected
to strengthen as it drifts further east into the Tasman Sea over the next couple
of days, extending a firm ridge along much of the east Queensland coast.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the tropical interior.
Scattered showers and gusty thunderstorms over the Central Highlands and
Coalfields, some thunderstorms are severe. Cloudy with isolated showers, patchy
light rain and drizzle areas over the remaining central and southeast districts.
Fine and mostly clear over the remainder of the state. Moderate to fresh S to SE
winds in the west. Moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere, fresh and gusty at times
along the Capricorn coast.
Forecast for Sunday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms over central districts north and west of
Rockhampton and through the northern Maranoa, with showers increasing to
scattered near the central coast. Cloudy with showers and drizzle areas
elsewhere over the Capricornia and Maranoa districts and also through
northwestern parts of the Darling Downs and Wide Bay and Burnett districts.
Isolated showers over the remainder of the southeast and also through the
eastern tropics, mostly inland during the afternoon. Showers and isolated
thunderstorms near the southern Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Fine and mostly sunny
over the remainder of the state. A hot and dry day in far west. Moderate SE to
NE winds, fresh at times along the east coast north of Fraser Island and through
the west. A Severe Fire Danger in the North West, northern Channel Country and
far western Central West district. A Very High Fire Danger over the Gulf Country
and Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders districts.
Forecast for Monday
The high is expected to drift towards southern New Zealand, maintaining a
firm ridge along the tropical east coast. An upper level ridge over the
Queensland interior should lead to fine conditions over most of Queensland.
Isolated showers will occur in the onshore flow about the tropical coast and
adjacent inland, increasing to scattered near the coast district during the day.
Isolated showers and drizzle areas should clear the central coast and interior
during the morning. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are likely once again
over the far northwest and about the Gulf Country. Fine and mostly sunny
conditions are expected over the remainder of Queensland. A new surface trough
is expected to approach the far southwest, with freshening N'ly winds and hot
temperatures ahead of the trough leading to an elevated fire danger through
areas southwest of about Mount Isa to Charleville.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high is expected to remain near New Zealand, maintaining a ridge over
eastern Queensland and isolated showers along the tropical east coast and Fraser
Island. The surface trough near the southwest of the state will most likely
combine with an intensifying upper level trough over central Australia to
generate a band of isolated showers and thunderstorms southwest of about Mount
Isa to Charleville. Isolated showers are expected over remaining parts of the
northwest, with possible thunderstorms near the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Fine
and mostly sunny conditions will occur elsewhere.
Forecast for Wednesday
A surface trough will most likely remain slow moving near the southwest of
the state while the upper system will continue to develop over central
Australia. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are therefore again expected
through far western parts of the state, possibly becoming more widespread late
in the day with some rain areas developing as the trough shifts further east.
Some high cloud will most likely spread further east through the southern
interior though with little or no rain expected. Fine and mostly sunny
conditions will occur over remaining parts of the interior. A firm ridge will
persist over eastern Queensland, with isolated showers along the exposed east
coast and ranges in a moist onshore wind flow.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
Some uncertainty exists with the movement of the trough but at this stage it
will most likely intensify as it enters western Queensland on Thursday and then
move slowly east over the state during the outlook period. The trough is
expected to generate a band of showers and thunderstorms with its passage,
possibly spreading to thundery rain areas depending on the intensity of the
trough. Mostly fine conditions should persist over eastern districts ahead of
the trough passage with only isolated showers expected.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Sunday.
