MELBOURNE - Nov 2/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A strong wind warning is current for coastal waters between Yeppoon and Point Danger, including Hervey Bay and Moreton Bay. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A weak ridge lies along the tropical east Queensland coast. A fresh to strong and gusty S to SE change is spreading northwards along the southern and Capricornia coast today. A high pressure system south of the continent extends a firm ridge along the east Australian coast in the wake of the change. Forecast for the rest of Friday Fine and sunny conditions over most of the state. Showers and isolated thunderstorms over the northwest, the Gulf Country and about the southeast of the state. Moderate to fresh SE to NE winds about the tropical east coast. Moderate to fresh and gusty SW to SE winds elsewhere, with a fresh to strong and gusty S to SE change moving northwards along the southern and Capricornia coast. A High to Very High Fire Danger over the interior. Forecast for Saturday The cooler change should move north to the Central Coast region, while a surface trough arc back inland into the Central Highlands region. The surface trough should draw more humid air inland, allowing isolated showers and thunderstorms to develop over the southeast tropical coast, the Central Highlands and the northern parts of the Maranoa and Warrego district. Mainly fine about the southeast, though some isolated, mainly light showers are possible. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state, except over the Gulf Country where isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected. Very warm to hot over the west. Forecast for Sunday A strengthening high in the Tasman Sea will strengthen a moist wind flow across Queensland's east coast, but the southeast districts will nonetheless remain mainly fine, except for a few isolated and mainly light showers. Isolated showers are expected about most of the remaining eastern districts south of about Cairns, and at least isolated showers and thunderstorms over the Central Highlands region. Fine and sunny across most of the remainder of the state, except for some isolated showers and thunderstorms over the Gulf Country. Very warm to hot over the west. Forecast for Monday An upper level ridge over Queensland's interior should cause conditions over most of Queensland to be fine and sunny, except for some isolated showers in an onshore flow about the northeast coast, and some isolated showers and thunderstorms over the Gulf Country. Very warm to hot over the west. Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday A ridge along the east coast should maintain mainly fine conditions across the eastern districts, except for some isolated showers about the northeast coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms should continue over the Gulf Country, whilst a southerly change and increasing cloud will bring cooler conditions to the southern interior. An upper level trough may produce a band of at least isolated showers and thunderstorms across the far southwest early in the outlook period, and that band is expected to reach the central and southern interior by around Thursday. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Friday.
