MELBOURNE - Nov 1/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Fire Weather Warning is current for parts of the Channel Country and Warrego and Maranoa forecast districts. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high [1020 hPa] over the Tasman Sea extends a weak ridge along Queensland's east coast. Forecast for the rest of Thursday Fine and mostly sunny across most of the state except for a few isolated and light morning showers about the North Tropical Coast and some isolated showers and thunderstorms about the state's northwest. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over most of the state, fresh at times about the northeast and southeast coast. A moderate to fresh S to SW change developing over the southern interior. A high to very high fire danger over the far northern and most southern districts, with a severe fire danger over the state's southwest. Forecast for Friday The ridge along the east coast will continue to weaken, but fine and mostly sunny conditions are nonetheless expected to continue over most of the state. A strong southerly change is expected to move along the southeast coast, reaching the Capricornia region by the evening, causing some isolated showers about the far southeast, and some isolated showers and thunderstorms over the Wide Bay and Burnett and the Capricornia district. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are also possible over the Gulf Country. Forecast for Saturday The southerly change should progress northwards to the Central Coast while extending a trough and more humid air inland across the Central Highlands and southern interior. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected in this more humid air over the southeast tropical coast, the Central Highlands and the northern parts of the Maranoa and Warrego district. Some isolated light showers are also possible about parts of the southeast coast, and isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected over the Gulf Country. Fine and mostly sunny across the remainder of the state. Very warm to hot over the western half of the state. Forecast for Sunday The surface trough should weaken over the Central Coast, but the remnants of it will still maintain a flow of humid air and at least isolated showers across the southeast tropical coast and the Central Highlands. Fine and mostly sunny across the remainder of the state, except for some isolated showers and thunderstorms about the western Gulf Country. Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday A new ridge should strengthen along the east coast early in the new week, directing more humid air and isolated showers across the northeast coast. Meanwhile a new upper trough and cold front will approach the far west, producing at least isolated showers and thunderstorms over the Channel Country, which may increase and spread to patchy rain areas during the outlook period. A persistent onshore flow and an offshore upper level trough may also allow showers to gradually become more frequent about the state's southeast. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Thursday.
