MELBOURNE - Oct 31/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system over the Tasman Sea is moving slowly eastwards. A low pressure trough over central Victoria will move slowly eastwards tonight and early Thursday. A cold front will move eastwards through Bass Strait on Thursday morning. The next high pressure system will move over waters south of the Bight late Thursday and will extend a ridge towards Victoria on Friday. The high will pass across Tasmania on Saturday, as the next low pressure trough extends from inland Australia towards northwest Victoria before weakening on Sunday. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayWarm in the far north and east with moderate northwesterly winds, but a cooler west to southwesterly change over central parts and the northwest extending slowly eastwards overnight. Isolated showers in the southwest, extending northeastwards and tending to rain in the southwest.Thursday 1 NovemberAreas of rain extending eastwards during the morning, then tending to isolated showers from the west during the day and contracting to the south. Isolated thunderstorms possible near the coast during the day. Becoming colder throughout as fresh southwesterly winds develop from the the west.Friday 2 NovemberIsolated showers in the south clearing from the west. Dry over the north. Cool to mild with light to moderate southwest to southeasterly winds.Saturday 3 NovemberDry and mostly sunny in the east. Cloud increasing over western and central districts during the day with isolated showers and the chance of thunderstorms, but mostly dry. Generally mild with generally light winds and coastal seabreezes.Sunday 4 NovemberDry and mostly sunny apart from isolated showers in central and eastern districts, clearing eastwards during the morning.
