Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 31/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high [1021 hPa] over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge along Queensland's east
coast. The ridge and high will weaken as the high moves towards New Zealand. An
upper level trough is drifting eastwards across the state's southeast and will
move into the Coral Sea during today.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Isolated showers are likely about the state's eastern districts and Gulf
Country, mostly in the morning in the northern tropics. Isolated thunderstorms
are possible in the southeast and Gulf Country. Fine and mostly sunny over the
rest of the state. A high to very high over the Peninsula district. Light to
moderate SE to NE winds, fresh at times about the northeast coast.
Forecast for Thursday
The ridge along the east coast will weaken as the high north of New Zealand
dissipates. A southerly wind change will move into the southern interior late in
the day, though no associated weather is expected. It will continue fine and
sunny across most of the state, except for isolated showers and thunderstorms
about the Gulf Country.
Forecast for Friday
A high will move into the Great Australian Bight, extending a ridge into
western Queensland. Fine and mostly sunny will prevail over much of the state,
though some isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible about the Gulf
Country. Isolated showers will be possible over the state's southeast as the
southerly change moves north towards the Capricornia coast. Increased wind and
low humidities will lead to increased fire dangers in the southern and
southeastern interior.
Forecast for Saturday
The high will move over southeastern Australia, extending a ridge over
Queensland and maintaining stable, fine and mostly sunny conditions across most
of the state. The only exceptions will be about the central coast and adjacent
inland areas as the surface trough generates isolated showers and thunderstorms,
and in the Gulf Country with showers and thunderstorms again possible.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
The high will move into the southern Tasman Sea and maintain a ridge along
the east Queensland coast during the outlook period. An upper level trough will
increase instability and generate isolated showers about central coast and
southeastern districts on Sunday and Monday. Conditions are likely to remain
fine and mostly sunny across most of the rest state.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Wednesday.
