Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 28/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
The Strong Wind Warning has been cancelled for coastal waters
between St Lawrence and Burnett Heads.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high [1026 hPa] over the western Tasman Sea is moving slowly eastwards,
extending a ridge along the Queensland east coast. A surface trough extends
through western areas of the state. An upper level trough over southwest
Queensland will move slowly east across the south of the state today and
tomorrow.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Rain areas, scattered showers and thunderstorms southeast of a line from
about Mackay to Windorah. Moderate falls are possible in this area, mainly with
thunderstorms. However, only isolated showers are expected about the far
southeast of the state. Isolated showers about the remaining east coast, with
isolated showers and possible thunderstorms through the tropical interior and
about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Fine over the state's far western
districts. Light to moderate SE to NE winds, fresh about parts of the central
and southern coast. Temperatures below average over the southeast quarter of the
state.
Forecast for Tuesday
The upper level trough will push into the southeast of the state, contracting
the showers, thunderstorms and rain areas into southeastern and southern inland
parts of Queensland. The high in the Tasman Sea will continue to drive moist
onshore winds to the southeast parts, while isolated showers are possible about
the tropical coast. Afternoon showers and thunderstorms about the central and
tropical east, and also about the Gulf coast. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere.
Temperatures below average over the southeast quarter of the state, while
becoming above average in the far west.
Forecast for Wednesday
The upper trough is expected to move off the east coast early, whilst the
high in the Tasman Sea will continue to feed moisture into the eastern half of
the state. Showers and isolated thunderstorms are therefore likely to continue
in eastern districts, and also about the Gulf coast. Drier air over the western
half of the state should lead to fine and mostly sunny conditions. Maximum
temperatures will continue to rise in the west with very warm to hot conditions
expected.
Forecast for Thursday
Another upper trough is likely to move through southeastern Australia,
extending a trough into New South Wales. Isolated showers may develop in the
southeast as a result. Isolated showers are also likely about the east coast
north of about Bowen in the onshore flow. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
The upper trough is expected to move through eastern Queensland on Friday,
and a surface trough move through southern waters. Isolated showers and
thunderstorms through southeastern and central districts, easing to isolated
showers over the weekend. Showers continuing in the tropical east, while showers
and thunderstorms are expected to continue generally about the Gulf coast. The
remainder of the state should be fine and mostly sunny through the outlook
period.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Monday.
