Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 28/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters between
St Lawrence and Point Danger, including Hervey Bay.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high [1026 hPa] is moving eastwards across southeastern Australia and will
enter the Tasman Sea late this evening. A surface trough extends through the
interior of the state and is expected to move into western Queensland during
Monday. Another trough is moving slowly northwards through Capricornia waters.
An upper level trough over southwest Queensland will move slowly east across the
south of the state on Monday.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Showers, thunderstorms and areas of rain over the central and southern
interior and for the Wide Bay, Capricornia and Central Coast districts. Moderate
falls are likely about the Capricornia, Central Highlands and northern Maranoa
and Warrego districts with isolated heavy falls with thunderstorms. More
isolated showers and thunderstorms are also expected over the southeast
interior. Isolated showers over the Southeast Coast district. Isolated showers
and thunderstorms over the tropical interior. Fine and mostly clear in the west.
Moderate to fresh SE to NE winds across most parts, strong at times about the
southern coasts.
Forecast for Monday
Rain areas, scattered showers and thunderstorms southeast of a line from
about Mackay to Windorah. Moderate falls are possible in this area, mainly with
thunderstorms. However, only isolated showers are expected about the far
southeast of the state. Isolated showers about the east coast north of Mackay
with isolated showers and possible thunderstorms through the tropical interior
and about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Fine over the state's far western
districts. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over eastern districts, fresh about
the Capricornia coast. Winds tending S to SE'ly in the far west. Temperatures
below average over the southeast quarter of the state.
Forecast for Tuesday
The upper level trough will push into the southeast of the state, contracting
the showers, thunderstorms and rain areas into southeastern and southern inland
parts of Queensland. The high in the Tasman Sea will continue to drive moist
onshore winds to the southeast parts, while isolated showers are possible about
the tropical coast. Afternoon showers and thunderstorms about the central and
tropical east, and also about the Gulf coast. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere.
Temperatures below average over the southeast quarter of the state, while
becoming above average in the far west.
Forecast for Wednesday
The upper trough is expected to move off the east coast early, whilst the
high in the Tasman Sea will continue to feed moisture into the eastern half of
the state. Showers and isolated thunderstorms are therefore likely to continue
in eastern districts. Drier air over the western half of the state should lead
to fine and mostly sunny conditions. Maximum temperatures will continue to rise
in the west with very warm to hot conditions expected.
Forecast for Thursday
Another upper trough is likely to move through southeastern Australia leading
to increased instability about the far southeast of the state. A surface trough
is expected to move through the southern interior during the day and is likely
to contract off the southeast coast late in the day. The trough should trigger
isolated showers and thunderstorms about the far southeast of the state.
Isolated showers are also likely about the east coast north of about Bowen in
the onshore flow. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
The upper trough should contact off the east coast during Friday with a
surface trough moving northwards through southern waters. Isolated showers are
likely about the southeast coast in the southerly winds behind the trough. These
showers are then likely to extend northwards along the east coast during the
weekend. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible about the Gulf Country
through the outlook period. The remainder of the state should be fine and
mostly sunny through the outlook period.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Monday.
