MELBOURNE - Oct 27/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Fire Weather Warning has been issued for the Channel
Country district for Sunday.
A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters between St Lawrence and
Point Danger, including Hervey Bay and Moreton Bay.

web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high [1015 hpa] over the Tasman Sea extends a weakening ridge along the
east coast of Queensland, while another high is moving eastwards through the
Great Australian Bight. A surface trough extends from the tropical interior to
southeast Queensland and is expected to move northwards into central districts
during Sunday. An upper level trough lies over central Australia and is expected
to move east and intensify on Sunday.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Mostly cloudy over the central and southern interior of Queensland with
patchy rain and isolated thunderstorms. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over
southeast districts. Fine and partly cloudy elsewhere. Areas of smoke haze.
Light to moderate mostly NE to NW winds over the northern and eastern tropics.
Moderate to fresh and gusty SW to SE winds elsewhere, strong and gusty at times
along the southern coasts. A Very High Fire in the Channel Country, Darling
Downs and Granite Belt, Wide Bay and Burnett, Central Highlands and Coalfields,
Capricornia and Central West districts.
Forecast for Sunday
Showers, thunderstorms and areas of rain over the central interior and
extending east during the day to parts of the Wide Bay, Capricornia and Central
Coast districts. Moderate falls are likely about the Central Highlands and
northern Maranoa and Warrego districts with isolated heavy falls with
thunderstorms. More isolated showers and thunderstorms are also expected over
the southeast interior. Only isolated showers over the Southeast Coast district,
mainly in the morning. Isolated afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms
over the tropical interior. Fine and mostly sunny in the west. Temperatures well
below average over the southeast quarter of the state. A Severe fire danger in
the Channel Country and a Very High fire danger in the Southeast Coast district.
Moderate to fresh SE to NE winds across most parts, strong and gusty at times
about the southern coasts.
Forecast for Monday
The upper trough should remain over Queensland's interior, and the surface
trough may drift further inland. This will result in showers and thunderstorms
spreading inland into the state's southwest and central west, and extending into
the southern tropics. The high over the Tasman Sea will continue pushing humid
air over the southeast quarter of the state, and this, along with the upper
trough, should help showers and storms over the region to spread to areas of
rain. Fine over the state's far west, and the chance of some isolated showers
and storms over the northern tropics. Temperatures below average over the
southeast quarter of the state.
Forecast for Tuesday
The upper level trough will push into the southeast of the state, contracting
the showers, thunderstorms and rain areas into southeastern Queensland. The high
in the Tasman Sea will continue to drive moist onshore winds to the southeast
parts, while isolated showers are possible about the tropical coast. Afternoon
showers and thunderstorms about the Gulf coast. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere.
Temperatures below average over the southeast quarter of the state, while
becoming above average in the far west.
Forecast for Wednesday
The upper trough should continue to move slowly eastwards over the east of
the state, whilst the high in the Tasman Sea will continue to feed moisture into
the eastern half of the state. Showers and isolated thunderstorms are therefore
likely to continue over the eastern half of the state. Drier air over the
western half of the state should lead to fine and mostly sunny conditions.
Maximum temperatures will continue to rise in the west with very warm to hot
conditions expected.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
Another upper trough is likely to affect southern Queensland towards the end
of the week, causing showers and possible thunderstorms over the southeast and
southern interior. Isolated showers and thunderstorms may also affect parts of
the central interior during as moisture spreads westwards. Isolated showers
along parts of the east coast, while showers and thunderstorms continuing over
parts of the Gulf coast. Fine and mostly sunny in the west and tropical
interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Sunday.
