MELBOURNE - Oct 24/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system will develop over South Australia this evening and is then likely to move across southwestern Victoria early Thursday then track southeastwards across northern Tasmania. An associated trough will enter western Victoria late today then move through central and eastern districts Thursday to reach the Tasman Sea by Thursday evening. A colder vigorous southwesterly airflow will spread across the state by Thursday night and will be reinforced by a cold front on Friday then gradually ease Saturday. A weak high pressure system will move over Victoria on Sunday. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayPatchy rain over the southwest extending to the Central district tonight. Remaining dry elsewhere. Moderate to fresh northerly winds ahead of a westerly change in the west at night.Thursday 25 OctoberPatchy rain clearing the southeast early in the morning. Scattered showers developing over the southwest, extending elsewhere south of the ranges by the afternoon. Generally dry over the north, just the chance of isolated showers near the ranges. Warm at first in the east with fresh to strong northwesterly winds reaching gale force about the ranges. Cool, fresh southwesterly winds developing in the west and gradually extending throughout, locally strong about the coast.Friday 26 OctoberScattered showers in southern and mountain districts, falling as snow at times above 1600 metres. Isolated showers possible near the ranges in the north, otherwise dry. A cool and partly cloudy day with moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds, locally strong near the coast.Saturday 27 OctoberScattered showers in the south tending more isolated near the ranges and falling as snow at first above 1300 metres. Showers contracting to the coast and Gippsland in the afternoon. A cool day with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds, locally strong near the coast.Sunday 28 OctoberEarly drizzle clearing from the southwestern and Gippsland coast. Early frost and fog patches inland. Otherwise a mild and partly cloudy day in the south, warmer and mostly sunny in the north.
