Weather Situation
A high [1029 hPa] near Tasmania is pushing a gusty, cooler southerly change
up Queensland's east coast.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Fine and mostly sunny over much of Queensland, with just some isolated
showers about parts of the central and northeast coast, and some scattered
showers and isolated storms over Cape York Peninsula. Milder daytime
temperatures across southern and parts of central Queensland, but remaining hot
over the western districts. Strong S to SE winds about the southeast coast, and
extending northwards into the north east coast by the evening. Mostly moderate E
to SE winds elsewhere. A severe fire danger in the Central Highlands and
Coalfields, Channel Country and southwest parts of the Maranoa and Warrego
districts; a very high fire danger across most of the remainder of the
state.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high should move slowly to the east across the Tasman Sea, while the
strong southerly winds will spread northwards across the North Tropical Coast.
Fine and mostly sunny across the state, except for some cloudy periods about the
east coast, and isolated showers over the northeast coast. A low over the Tasman
Sea should move further away from the Queensland coast, but will extend large
swells along most of Queensland's east coast. Hot daytime temperatures over the
far west.
Forecast for Thursday
The high should weaken over the Tasman Sea, and the low should move further
away from Australia, allowing swell to ease along Queensland's east coast. Fine
and dry across the state, except for some isolated showers about the northeast
coast, and the chance of some isolated showers and storms about the Gulf
Country. A new high over the Great Australian Bight should push a surface trough
into the Channel Country late in the day, but the area is expected to stay dry.
Forecast for Friday
An upper level trough over central Australia will produce some high cloud
over the far southwest, spreading eastwards over the southern interior during
the day, but little if any rainfall is expected. Fine and mostly sunny across
the remainder of the state, except for some isolated showers over the northern
reaches of Cape York Peninsula. The surface trough will move further eastwards
into the central interior, allowing temperatures to ease over the Channel
Country.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
The upper level trough may produce some further light thundery rain about the
state's southwest early in the weekend, before weakening and contracting
eastwards on Sunday. A new ridge should develop along the east coast producing
some isolated showers about the southeast coast on Sunday. Fine and mostly
sunny elsewhere.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Tuesday.
