MELBOURNE - Oct 21/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Fire Weather Warning is current for the Maranoa and Warrego and Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts and parts of the Southeast Coast and Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders district. A Strong Wind Warning is current for waters south of Burnett Heads, including Moreton and Hervey Bays. A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for waters between St. Lawrence and Burnett Heads for Tuesday morning. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high [1024 hPa] over the Great Australian Bight is expected to push a cooler, gusty southerly change through southern districts this afternoon. Forecast for the rest of Monday Cloud and patchy light rain over the southern interior and the southeast will clear eastwards during the morning. A gusty cool change should move northwards across southeast Queensland during the late afternoon and evening with isolated showers and thunderstorms ahead of the change near the coast. Isolated showers across far northern Queensland with isolated thunderstorms over Cape York Peninsula. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Hot daytime temperatures across southern, western and parts of central Queensland. Strong S to SE winds will develop along the southeast coast during the afternoon and evening. A Severe fire danger in the Maranoa and Warrego, Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts and part of the Southeast Coast and Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders District. A Very High fire danger across most of the remainder of the state. Forecast for Tuesday The high should strengthen as it drifts over Victoria, and will push the cool change further northwards along the central Queensland coast. Isolated showers over Cape York Peninsula and along the east coast near the change, mainly fine elsewhere along the east coast. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Milder daytime temperatures across southern and parts of central Queensland. Strong S to SE winds extending to the coast south of about Townsville by the evening. A low pressure system well offshore in the Tasman Sea should push increasing southerly swells over southeast waters. Forecast for Wednesday The high should drift slowly to the east across the Tasman Sea, and will push cooler, gusty southerly winds and isolated showers over Queensland's northeast coast. Mainly fine about the remainder of the east coast, except for some isolated showers over the Peninsula district. Fine and mostly sunny over the interior. The low over the Tasman Sea should move further away from the Queensland coast, but will extend large swells along most of Queensland's east coast. Very warm daytime temperatures over the far west. Forecast for Thursday The high should weaken over the Tasman Sea, and the low should move further away from Australia, allowing swells to ease along Queensland's east coast. A mainly weak onshore flow out of the high should allow the east coast to remain mainly fine, though some isolated showers may occur over the northeast coast. Fine and mostly sunny over the interior. A new high over the Great Australian Bight should push a new surface trough into the Channel Country late in the day, but no showers or storms are expected with it. Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday A new cooler change will move into western Queensland on Thursday, and is likely to spread into Queensland's northern districts during the weekend. Fine and mainly sunny conditions across most of the state except for some isolated showers about parts of the east coast, and some isolated showers and storms associated with a weak upper level trough over the central and southern districts during the weekend. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Monday.
