Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 21/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Fire Weather Warning is current for parts of the Northern
Goldfields and Upper Flinders districts.
A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for coastal waters south of Burnett Heads
for Monday, including Moreton and Hervey Bays.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A weak surface trough lies over Queensland's southern interior. A high [1027
hPa] over the Great Australian Bight is expected to push a gusty, and cooler
southerly change into the southern districts late on Monday.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Isolated showers and gusty thunderstorms across the southern interior, but
little or no rainfall is expected to reach the ground. Isolated afternoon or
evening showers and gusty thunderstorms across southeast and parts of central
Queensland. Isolated showers along the tropical east coast north of about
Cairns. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over
the interior, and moderate to fresh SE to NE winds along the east coast, tending
NW to NE along the southeast coast. A Very High fire danger over much of the
state.
Forecast for Monday
Some showers and patchy, and mainly light thundery rain may occur early in
the morning over the central interior and the southeast. A gusty cool change
should move northwards across southeast Queensland late in the day, and there is
the chance of some isolated showers and storms ahead of the change near the
coast. Elsewhere in the state expect mainly isolated showers across far
northern Queensland, with the chance of some isolated thunderstorms over Cape
York Peninsula. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Hot daytime temperatures across
southern, western and parts of central Queensland. Strong S to SE winds will
develop along the southeast coast during the afternoon and evening.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high should strengthen as it drifts over Victoria, and will also push the
cool change further northwards along the central Queensland coast. Isolated
showers over Cape York Peninsula and along the east coast near the change,
mainly fine elsewhere along the east coast. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere.
Milder daytime temperatures across southern and parts of central Queensland.
Strong S to SE winds extending to the coast south of about Townsville by the
evening. A low pressure system well offshore in the Tasman Sea should push
increasing southerly swells over southeast waters.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high should drift slowly to the east across the Tasman Sea, and will push
cooler, gusty southerly winds and isolated showers over Queensland's northeast
coast. Mainly fine about the remainder of the east coast, except for some
isolated showers over the Peninsula district. Fine and mostly sunny over the
interior. The low over the Tasman Sea should move further away from the
Queensland coast, but will extend large swells along most of Queensland's east
coast. Very warm daytime temperatures over the far west.
Forecast for Thursday
The high should weaken over the Tasman Sea, and the low should move further
away from Australia, allowing swells to ease along Queensland's east coast. A
mainly weak onshore flow out of the high should allow the east coast to remain
mainly fine, though some isolated showers may occur over the northeast coast.
Fine and mostly sunny over the interior. A new high over the Great Australian
Bight should push a new surface trough into the Channel Country late in the day,
but no showers or storms are expected with it.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
A new cooler change will move into western Queensland on Thursday, and is
likely to spread into Queensland's northern districts during the weekend. Fine
and mainly sunny conditions across most of the state except for some isolated
showers about parts of the east coast, and some isolated showers and storms
associated with a weak upper level trough over the central and southern
districts during the weekend.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Monday.
