MELBOURNE - Oct 18/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high over the Tasman Sea is weakening, allowing a broad trough of low pressure to move into New South Wales. A low developing within this trough will lie over western and southern districts today, shower activity will be minimal due to the dryness of the atmosphere. On Saturday this system is forecast to move to the northeast of the state as a high strengthens south of the Bight. A cold front from the Southern Ocean is expected to pass over New South Wales during Sunday and Monday, ahead of the high pressure system. Forecast for the rest of FridayVery warm to hot day, with some high cloud at times. The chance of showers across most districts, generally quite light, contracting to the east in the afternoon before clearing. The risk of afternoon thunderstorms about the south coast, and in the far northeast. Northwest to northeast winds turning southwesterly in the west and south, locally fresh in the afternoon.Fire Danger - Very High over the northeastern.Saturday 20 OctoberFine and mostly sunny. Very warm to hot day in the north. Northwest to northeast winds in the northeast. Southwest to southeast winds remainder.Sunday 21 OctoberScattered showers developing in southern and central districts, tending isolated elsewhere. Southwest to southeast winds extending throughout.Monday 22 OctoberIsolated showers on the coast and ranges, with snow possible on the Alps. Fine elsewhere.
