Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 18/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A low pressure trough over northeast New South Wales is weakening as a high strengthens across Victoria and southern New South Wales and a trough approaches the state's west. A low developing within this trough is forecast to pass over southern districts during Friday, but is not expected to generate much shower activity due to the dryness of the atmosphere. The next significant cold front appears likely to affect the region during Sunday and Monday.
Forecast for the rest of ThursdayIsolated afternoon showers about the north coast, with the risk of a thunderstorm or two near the Queensland border. Fine and partly cloudy along the remainder of the coast and over the southern inland. Chiefly northwest to northeasterly winds, fresh at times along the southern and central parts of the coast this afternoon and early evening.Friday 19 OctoberCloudy periods. Isolated showers over the east and north, with isolated thunderstorms also possible in the northwest and along the eastern slopes of the southern ranges during the afternoon. Fine in the southwest. Very warm day through most of the state, hot in the northwest. Northwest to northeast winds freshening before a south to southwest change in the west and south.Fire Danger -  Very High over the northeastern NSWSaturday 20 OctoberFine. Sunny. Very warm to hot day in the north. Northwest to northeast winds in the northeast. Southwest to southeast winds remainder.Sunday 21 OctoberScattered showers developing in southern and central districts. Isolated showers elsewhere. Southwest to southeast winds developing.Monday 22 OctoberIsolated showers on the coast and ranges, with snow possible on the Alps.
