Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 16/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high [1024 hPa] over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge along the east tropical
coast of Queensland. A dry and stable airmass is in place over the Queensland
interior.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Isolated showers along the east coast north of Mackay. Fine and mostly sunny
elsewhere, with warm daytime temperatures across the southwest and southern
interior of the state. Moderate NE to SE winds along the east coast, fresh and
gusty in parts. Generally light to moderate NE to NW winds elsewhere, with a
light to moderate SE to SW wind change moving over parts of the southern
interior during the day. Very high fire dangers in the Northern Goldfields and
Upper Flinders, Northwest, Central West, Channel Country, Maranoa and Warrego
and Southeast Coast districts.
Forecast for Thursday
The weak surface trough is expected to remain slow moving over southern
Queensland, and reach the southeast coast as a weak southerly change in the
morning. Another high will move into the Tasman Sea and continue to extend the
ridge along the Queensland east coast. Isolated afternoon or evening showers and
thunderstorms are possible over southeast Queensland, although mainly near the
higher terrain. Isolated light showers should continue along the tropical east
coast, north of about Cardwell. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Warm daytime
temperatures are expected across the southwest and southern interior.
Forecast for Friday
The surface trough situated over southern Queensland should weaken during the
day. The high over the Tasman Sea will otherwise continue to extend a ridge
along the Queensland east coast. Isolated high based thunderstorms are possible
over the southern interior, though little or no rainfall is expected to reach
the surface with this activity. Isolated showers are possible along the tropical
east coast, north of about Cardwell. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Warm to
hot daytime temperatures are expected across southwest and southern Queensland.
Forecast for Saturday
Another surface trough will move eastwards across South Australia and western
New South Wales, and reach into southern Queensland during the day. Meanwhile,
the high in the Tasman Sea will move slowly eastwards and continue to extend a
ridge along the Queensland east coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will
be possible across southeast Queensland. Isolated showers will be possible along
the tropical east coast, north of about Cardwell. Warm to hot daytime
temperatures are expected across southwest and southern Queensland.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
The surface trough situated over southern Queensland is expected to move
eastwards across southeast and central parts of the state during Sunday and
Monday. The high in the Tasman Sea is otherwise expected to continue moving
eastwards while weakening into early next week. Showers and thunderstorms will
be possible across southern, southeast and central Queensland, mainly up until
Monday. Isolated showers will continue to be possible along the tropical east
coast. Warm daytime temperatures are expected across western, southern and parts
of central Queensland, though a cooler change should push into the southern
interior on Monday and extend into the southeast of the state on Tuesday.
