MELBOURNE - Oct 14/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters between Torres Strait and Port Douglas, and for northeast Gulf of Carpentaria waters north of Cullen Point. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high [1027 hPa] over the Tasman Sea will maintain a ridge along the east coast of Queensland as it drifts slowly east over the next few days. Dry air remains over Queensland's interior. Forecast for the rest of Monday Fine and sunny across most of Queensland, except for some isolated showers about parts of the southeast, and isolated showers and thunderstorms near the Gulf Country coast west of Normanton. Light to moderate SE to NE winds, tending fresh SE about the northeast coast. A Very High fire danger over the central west and far west of the state, and also over the Peninsula district. Forecast for Tuesday The high should move towards the eastern reaches of the Tasman Sea, but will still maintain fine and sunny conditions across most of the state, except for some isolated showers about the tropical east coast. Fresh to strong SE winds should continue about the northeast tropical coast. Below average morning temperatures about the interior, but daytime maxima rising over the southern inland regions. Forecast for Wednesday The high should remain near the eastern reaches of the Tasman Sea, and most of Queensland should remain fine and mostly sunny, except for some isolated showers about the tropical east coast. Temperatures should rise above the monthly average over the southern districts. Forecast for Thursday An upper level trough will move through southeastern Australia, just brushing far southeast Queensland. Combined with a weak surface trough, this may be enough to produce a few showers over the southeast corner of the state during the day. Mostly fine conditions elsewhere, as the ridge along the east coast continues to weaken, though some isolated showers are still expected about the northeast coast. Daytime temperatures will remain well above average in the far south. Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday A new high should move east over Victoria and into the Tasman Sea, maintaining mostly fine conditions across the state except for isolated showers along parts of Queensland's east coast. Daytime temperatures are likely to remain above average over the southern and central districts as northerly winds persist. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Monday.
