Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 14/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters between
Torres Strait and Port Douglas.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high [1024 hPa] over the far western Tasman Sea extends a ridge along the
Queensland east coast. The high expected to move slowly eastwards over the next
few days. An upper level trough is moving over far southeastern Queensland
today, accompanied by a weak surface trough and southerly change. A dry and
stable airmass remains in place over most of Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Fine over most of the state. Isolated showers over the Peninsula district,
and isolated showers over the southeast coast and adjacent inland, with a few
thunderstorms in the far south. Light to moderate SW to SE winds over most of
the state, fresh about the northeast coast.
Forecast for Monday
Fine and sunny across most of Queensland. Isolated showers about the
southeast and northeast coasts, and isolated showers and thunderstorms near the
Gulf Country coast west of Mornington Island. Below average morning temperatures
over most of the state, but daytime maxima should rise to close to the monthly
average. Light to moderate SE to NE winds, tending fresh SE about the northeast
coast. A Very High fire danger over the central west and far west of the state,
and also over the Peninsula district.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high should move towards the eastern reaches of the Tasman Sea, but will
still maintain fine and sunny conditions across most of the state. Isolated
showers are expected about the tropical east coast and the Gulf Country coast.
Fresh to strong SE winds should continue about the northeast tropical coast. A
cool morning through most central and eastern districts with maximum
temperatures rising above average in the southwest.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high should remain near the eastern reaches of the Tasman Sea, and most
of Queensland should remain fine and mostly sunny, except for some isolated
showers about the tropical east coast. Temperatures should rise above the
monthly average over the southern districts ahead of a weak surface trough, but
no rain is expected over the region.
Forecast for Thursday
An upper level trough will move through southeastern Australia, just brushing
far southeast Queensland. Combined with a weak surface trough, this may be
enough to produce a few showers over the southeast corner of the state during
the day. Mostly fine conditions elsewhere, as the ridge along the eat coast
continued to weaken, and east coastal showers contract north towards the Ingham
area. Daytime temperatures will remain well above average in the far south.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
A new high should move east over Victoria and into the Tasman Sea,
maintaining mostly fine conditions across the state except for isolated showers
along parts of Queensland's east coast. Daytime temperatures are likely to
remain above average over the southern and central districts as winds tend more
northerly.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Monday.
