MELBOURNE - Oct 12/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Strong Wind Warning is current for Southeast Gulf of Carpentaria waters. A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for coastal waters between Torres Strait and Cooktown for Saturday afternoon and evening. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high [1028 hPa] over the eastern Great Australian Bight extends a ridge and cool S to SE winds across most of Queensland. The high expected to move slowly eastwards over the next few days. Forecast for the rest of Saturday Fine and sunny conditions across most of Queensland, except for some isolated showers over the Peninsula district with possible isolated late thunderstorms about western Cape York Peninsula. Cool to cold conditions over most parts, with extensive areas of early frost over the southern and southeastern interior. Light to moderate SW to SE winds over most of the state with fresh to strong SE'ly winds in the tropics. Strong SE winds in the southeast Gulf of Carpentaria during the morning. A Very High fire danger in the Gulf Country, North West and Peninsula districts. Forecast for Sunday The high should drift northeast across New South Wales and is expected to maintain fine and mostly sunny conditions across most of Queensland. An upper trough and weak SE'ly winds are likely to produce isolated showers about the Gold Coast and border ranges with possible isolated afternoon thunderstorms about the border ranges. Isolated showers are also possible about the far north of Cape York Peninsula. A cold morning across most of the state with areas of morning frost about the Granite Belt. Light to moderate SW to SE winds over most parts, with fresh to strong SE winds about the northeast coast. Forecast for Monday The high will move eastwards into the Tasman Sea and will maintain fine and mostly sunny conditions across most of Queensland. Isolated showers are expected to continue about the southeast and northeast coasts in the onshore flow. Fresh to strong SE winds will continue about the northeast tropical coast. A cool to cold morning over most of the state, however maximum temperatures should gradually start to rise close to the seasonal average. Forecast for Tuesday The high should drift towards the eastern reaches of the Tasman Sea, but will still maintain fine and mostly sunny conditions across most of the state. Isolated showers are expected about the tropical east coast and are likely to extend further south to the central coast as the wind flow becomes more onshore. Fresh to strong SE winds will continue about the northeast tropical coast. A cool morning through most central and eastern districts with maximum temperatures rising above average in the southwest. Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday The high will continue to move eastwards across the Tasman Sea, extending a ridge along the central and tropical east coast of Queensland. Fine and mostly sunny across the state, except for some isolated showers over parts of the east coast. Daytime temperatures increasing to above average over the southern and central districts as winds tend more N to NE'ly. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Saturday.
