Weather Situation
A high over the Great Australian Bight has pushed a cold front off
Queensland's east coast. An upper level trough lies over Queensland's southern
interior.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
A cloud band with patchy rain and isolated thunderstorms over the far east of
the state south of about St. Lawrence, contracting offshore during the evening.
Fine and cool over the state's interior, except for the chance of some isolated
showers and thunderstorms over the far southern inland. Mainly moderate NW to SW
winds across the eastern districts, fresh to strong near the coast. Fresh to
strong SW to SE winds over the interior.
Forecast for Friday
Cool to cold conditions across a lot of the state, except for the Peninsula
district and the state's northeast. Isolated showers and storms over the
northern districts, and fine and clear over the remainder of the state except
for the some morning sleet and isolated storms about the Granite Belt. Fresh to
strong SW winds over the state's southeast and the Central Coast and Capricornia
districts. Moderate to fresh SW to SE winds over the remainder of the
state.
Forecast for Saturday
A high over Victoria should produce fine and sunny conditions across most of
Queensland, except for some isolated showers over the northern parts of the
Peninsula district. Remaining cool over inland parts, with extensive areas of
early frost over the southern and southeastern interior. Strong winds along the
far northeastern coast, and about the Gulf Country coast during the morning.
Forecast for Sunday
The high should drift to the northeast across the New South Wales coast, but
should maintain fine and mostly sunny conditions across most of Queensland. A
weak SE change may push some isolated showers across the southeast coast, and
some isolated showers are also possible about the far north of Cape York
Peninsula. A cold morning across most of the state with areas of morning frost
about the Granite Belt.
Forecast for Monday
The high should lie over the Tasman Sea and is likely to maintain fine and
mostly sunny conditions across most of Queensland, except for some isolated
showers about the southeast and northeast coasts.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
Fine and mostly sunny across the state, except for some isolated showers over
parts of the east coast as a ridge builds and causes onshore winds to gradually
freshen during the week. Daytime temperatures increasing over the southern
interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Friday.
