Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 10/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A strong cold front will cross western NSW Thursday as a low pressure system deepens off the southern NSW coast. The front will move over the northeast Friday as the low deepens further and move north along central parts of the coast, before moving away to the east later Friday. A high pressure system over the Bight is expected to extend a ridge across the state over the weekend then move east to be centred over the Tasman Sea early next week.
Forecast for the rest of ThursdayRain areas in the east with local heavy falls in the southeast. Snow on the Alps and snow showers developing on higher parts of the central ranges later. Scattered showers elsewhere, with possible hail in the far west. The chance of thunderstorms in most districts. Northwesterly winds in the far northwest ahead of cold and gusty southwesterly winds extending throughout. Winds tending southerly on the south coast and becoming strong to gale force. Dangerous surf developing in the south.Friday 12 OctoberIsolated showers in the east, though widespread on central parts of the coast and eastern ranges during the morning with moderate to heavy falls possible. Snow showers above about 1000m on the central and northern ranges, and above 900 metres on the southern ranges, mainly during the morning. Partly cloudy in the west. South to southwesterly winds, strong near the coast, and gale force about central parts of the the coast, easing later. Dangerous surf conditions.Saturday 13 OctoberIsolated showers on the southern and central ranges and coast. Partly cloudy elsewhere. Southwesterly winds, tending southeast on the coast.Sunday 14 OctoberFine and mostly sunny. Light winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EDT Thursday.Product IDN10031
