Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 10/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A broad low pressure trough lies over New South Wales. During Wednesday a cold front will move to the south of the state and the trough will contract east with a low developing over the southeast of the state Wednesday night or Thursday morning. During Thursday the low will move over the southwestern Tasman Sea off and deepen before moving rapidly east on Friday as a high pressure system moves toward the Bight strengthening a ridge across the state. The high is expected to be centred over the western Tasman Sea by Sunday, moving slowly east and maintaining the ridge to the northeast.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayPartly cloudy in the northwest. Showers or rain ares in the southeast with the chance of thunderstorms on the western slopes of the southern ranges. The chance of showers elsewhere. Northerly in the northeast ahead of colder, fresh and gusty southwesterly winds extending from the west and southeast.Fire Danger -  Very High: Northern Rivers, Mid North Coast, Northern Tablelands, North West Slopes and Plains.Thursday 11 OctoberRain areas in the east with possible local heavy falls in the southeast. Showers elsewhere clearing from the west. The chance of thunderstorms in the eastern half. Snow showers on the Alps above 1100 metres and possibly on the central ranges above 1300 metres. Northwesterly winds in the far northwest ahead of cold and gusty southwesterly winds extending throughout. Winds tending southeast on the south coast and increasing overnight.Friday 12 OctoberIsolated showers in the east. Showers tending widespread at first on central parts of the coast and eastern ranges, with moderate to heavy falls possible. Snow showers above 1000m on the central and northern ranges, and above 900 metres on the southern ranges, mainly during the morning. Partly cloudy elsewhere. South to southwesterly winds, gusty near the coast.Saturday 13 OctoberIsolated showers on the southern and central ranges and coast. Partly cloudy elsewhere. Southwesterly winds, tending southeast on the coast.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EDT Wednesday.Product IDN10031
