Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 9/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A weak cold front over southwest Victoria will move across southern Victoria to reach the Tasman Sea early Wednesday. A stronger cold front will then sweep across Victoria later Wednesday, developing into an intense low pressure system over the Tasman Sea early Thursday. A high pressure system will move over the Bight on Friday then eastwards to western Victoria on Saturday.
Forecast for the rest of TuesdayIsolated showers about Gippsland and the northeast ranges, falling as snow above 1700 metres. Rain areas in the southwest, extending to central areas by the evening. Light to moderate westerly winds, shifting fresh south to southwesterly in the west and south. Afternoon coastal seabreezes about the Gippsland coast.Wednesday 10 OctoberScattered showers developing over most districts tending to rain areas in the southwest during the afternoon. Local hail and thunder possible in the west, mainly afternoon. Showers falling as snow down to 1100 metres over eastern ranges but down to 800 metres over the Grampians at night. A cool and partly cloudy day with light to moderate west to southwesterly winds, tending colder fresh to strong southerly over western districts later in the afternoon.Thursday 11 OctoberScattered showers with local hail and thunder possible, isolated in the northwest but more widespread over southern areas. Showers falling as snow above 700 metres. A partly cloudy day with cool to cold, fresh and gusty southerly wind, strengthening about parts of the coast.Friday 12 OctoberScattered showers mainly on and south of the ranges, fine over the northern inland. Local hail and thunder possible in the east at first and showers falling as snow above 1100 metres at first. Cool to cold with moderate to fresh south to southwesterly winds, strong at times about the coast.Saturday 13 OctoberScattered showers over Gippsland and the east ranges, easing later in the afternoon and clearing at night. Isolated showers elsewhere in the south and over central areas, clearing during the day. Fine over the northwest. Cool with light to moderate southwest winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EDT Wednesday.Product IDV10310
