Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 9/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A broad low pressure trough lies over New South Wales. During Wednesday a cold front will move to the south of the state and the trough will contract east with a low expected to develop over the southeast of the state Wednesday night or Thursday morning. During Thursday the low will move over the southwestern Tasman Sea off central to southern parts of the New South Wales coast and deepen before moving rapidly east on Friday as a high pressure system moves toward the Bight strengthening a ridge across the state. The high is expected to be centred over the western Tasman Sea by Sunday, moving slowly east and maintaining the ridge to the northeast.
Forecast for the rest of TuesdayIsolated showers on the southern and central coasts, contracting further south during the evening. Partly cloudy elsewhere in the east. Mostly sunny west of the Divide. Light winds.Wednesday 10 OctoberPartly cloudy in the northeast with the chance of showers or thunderstorms on the far north coast. Isolated showers elsewhere tending scattered in the southeast. Snow showers on the higher Alpine peaks. The chance of thunderstorms in the far southwest slopes. Northerly in the northeast ahead of colder, fresh and gusty southwesterly winds extending from the west and southeast.Fire Danger -  Very High: Northern Rivers, Mid North Coast, Northern Tablelands, North West Slopes and Plains.Thursday 11 OctoberRain areas in the northeast of the state. Scattered showers on the remaining slopes, ranges and coast. Showers in the southeast becoming widespread later in the day and increasing to rain with moderate to heavy falls possible. Isolated showers in the far west of the state. Snow showers on the Alps above 1100 metres and possibly on the central ranges above 1300 metres. The chance of thunderstorms apart from the northwest of the state. Northwesterly winds in the far northwest ahead of cold and gusty southwesterly winds extending throughout. Winds tending southeast on the south coast and increasing overnight.Friday 12 OctoberIsolated showers on the slopes, ranges and coast. Showers more widespread at first on central parts of the coast and eastern ranges, with moderate to heavy falls possible. Showers falling as snow above 1000m on the central and northern ranges, and down to 900 metres on the southern ranges, mainly during the morning. Partly cloudy elsewhere. South to southwesterly winds, gusty near the coast.Saturday 13 OctoberIsolated showers on the southern and central ranges and coast. Partly cloudy elsewhere.
