MELBOURNE - Oct 9/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system over Victoria is slowly weakening. A weak cold front will reach southwest Victoria this afternoon then will cross southern Victoria to reach the Tasman Sea early Wednesday. A stronger cold front will then sweep across Victoria later Wednesday, developing into an intense low pressure system over the Tasman Sea early Thursday. A cold and unstable southerly airflow will follow in the wake of the front, through until Friday. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayLocal early frost and fog inland. Isolated showers about Gippsland and the northeast ranges, falling as snow above 1400 metres at first. Becoming cloudy with rain areas developing in the southwest by early afternoon, extending to central areas by the evening. Generally mild with light to moderate westerly winds, shifting fresh south to southwesterly in the west and south later in the afternoon. Afternoon coastal seabreezes about the Gippsland coast.Wednesday 10 OctoberScattered showers developing over most districts and tending more widespread over parts of the south and northeast. Local hail and thunder possible, mainly in the afternoon. Showers falling as snow down to 1100 metres over eastern ranges but down to 800 metres over the Grampians. A cool to cold and partly cloudy day with light to moderate west to southwesterly winds freshening about the coast and over western districts in the afternoon.Thursday 11 OctoberScattered showers with local hail and thunder possible, more widespread over southern areas. Showers falling as snow above 700 metres. A partly cloudy day with cool to cold, fresh and gusty southerly wind, strengthening about parts of the coast.Friday 12 OctoberScattered showers on and south of the ranges, isolated showers extending to the northern inland areas during the afternoon. Local hail and thunder possible in the east. Showers contracting to southern areas by the evening and falling as snow above 1100 metres at first.
